it hurts, but not because of the "no fat". There is actually MORE fat there, so the needles have to be sset further out to penetrate. Think of it like a very sharp paintbrush. Tattooing needles are nothing like needles for shots, theyre not hollow at all and have a different shape. Since you wont be able to see it being done make sure you have something to take your mind off of it, friends to chat, an ipod etc etc. I like holding a gigantic carebear simply cos i can always scream into it if it hurts real bad. (im a puss and proud when i get tattooed, i have no shame bawling my eyes out)
Also as a girl certain times of the month will hurt more for you, just depends on personal cycle etc.
If you're really worried maybe getting something small elsewhere first might be a better option.

To the person above, not every woman ends up looking like mother teresa! If you keep yourself in shape, eat right, and take care of your skin you can still look fabulous at 50. Look at Andie McDowell, or Cher (shes about 100 and still looks good thanx to modern science)

Hi, ya. Hurt? Depends on your threshhold of pain. I also HATE needles. I am 49 with a SEVERELY bad back. I have had more needles in my lower back than you can shake a stick at.....it still hurts everytime. Ideally, your skin is supposed to go numb after a few minutes.(tattoo). All I can say is, good luck girl. You're talking about one of the very most tender parts of the skin on your body.

Depending on the location and the size and how many colors. It seems to really naw over the bony parts but it does go away. its kind of like a dullness that just wont stop. taking pain killers or alcohol prior to the procedure will only make you bleed more and is not recommended. think about the beauty and the meaning of the tattoo, ask yourself is the short lived pain worth it and if it is go right away. If it hurts too much you can always stop and come back. just remember a tattoo is permanent. It will be YOU

I hate needles! The thought of giving blood makes my skin crawl, but I have two tattoos and sitting in a chair getting a tattoo is no problem. However I will NOT get a tattoo anywhere near the inside of my elbow, the thought of that freaks me out even more.

Hey Spice...(I HATE NEEDLES TOO) but there's nothing to get freaked out about here. I have had the outsides of my biceps tattooed and the closest thing I can compare it to .....it's like having tiny little sparks falling down on you over and over. They go out as soon as they hit the skin...but there's always more of them falling and hitting.. It doesn't hurt so much as it is annoying. The next day (and for about 4 to 6 days later) its going to feel like a sunburn, and then its going to start itching like the dickens. The key is to relax, listen to music or talk to a friend to distract you. Use the best artist you can find. You want this tattoo to be a piece of art. Go to my 360 page and click on the dragon tattoo in my blog, then click it again. My dragon was 12 hours old in that picture...no scabs..no bleeding, just sore like a sunburn. (That took two hours)

I am doing 8 to 9 hours under the needles next month (to get a tattoo covered) so I've been doing my research.....here is the best article I could find on pain as charted by body location

http://www.tattooz.net/default.cfm?sitem...

You're going to get through this with no problems.....you've built it up in your head to be much worse than it is.
I hope this helps ya
PS Sent me a pic when you get it done

HI spice W

Tattooing can hurt...that much goes without saying. However, what can hurt far more in the long run is the effect a tattoo can have on your reputation and respectability.

There are some comments already in this thread that accuse tattoo owners of being tramps, etc.

Why go through the pain of having it done when you will be the only person who never sees it.

Some tattoos CAN look very tasteful and on a young, fit girl with good skin they can look decorative, but your skin will not remain young forever and you will, eventually, start to show the signs of age that affect us all.

Then tattoos look dirty, unhealthy and trashy.

What do you think when you see a fifty-something woman (or man) with a garish tattoo discoloring the skin and looking like a dirty stain?

Remember YOU will be that fifty-something woman one day.

If you like the appearance of the woman, go ahead, it's your body and your life. But if you have the slightest doubt DON'T DO IT! It is very difficult to get a tattoo successfully removed, once applied.

Why put yourself through that pain for something you can't see? And that you may regret for the rest of your life?

Good luck, whatever you decide to do.

Cheers,

BobSpain

i feel for ya, i am terrified of needles. but i still got my tattoos and my tongue and a few other places pierced. and yet i still cant stand to watch my blood get drawn.
and i just had a paw print on my lower back. it didnt hurt that much, but this is coming form someone who had her ankle done. my tattoo guy did a really good job and was gentle on my back. only a couple of times did it hurt. the lining of the tattoos are the worst part if ya ask me.

Yes, unfortunately it really will! And the lower back is one of the most painful places to get a tattoo because there is not much fat under the skin. If you are very scared of needles and aren't good with pain, I wouldn't recommend it. Good luck!

it will hurt, but the needle only goes into the skin a little bit (granted it goes into the skin many times, but still), so it just kinda burns a little.

'notyou' needs to chill out and remember not everyone gets their tattoos removed. I'm tired of people like that.
