Because they buy senseless old wives' tales and cannot use common sense or buy regular conditioner that smells GOOD. Or, they like the greasy look.

Actually, it's a really good deep conditioner. It's not that amazing or anything, but it will help add the moisture and protein to dry hair that needs it. I don't like to eat mayonnaise, but when I used it in my hair I mixed it with regular conditioner to cut down on the smell. It sure works a lot better than the "hair mayonnaise" that the faux African-American companies put out!

It is supposed to be a good moisturizer for the hair. Fortunately, there are so many great conditioners nowadays that this is a pretty uncommon practice anymore. I have had great luck with all of the John Frieda and Dove product lines, they moisturize very well.

The oils make the hair softer and silkier and the high egg content in mayo adds protein to the hair. I can remember doing it and putting a plastic bag on my hair and leaving it. It is for people who want to use a "natural" remedy.

Mayonnaise does not do anything to your hair. It's just some myth that some girls made up and it has passed around for sometime.

I have only done it once, and that is when I was 5 and I had bubble gum stuck in it. I have heard that it has a lot of natural oils that help to hydrate and de-frizz hair.

As a conditioner, but Pantene smells/works better so I'd go ahead and use Pantene.
