Do I need a passport to enter into the U.S or can I still use my Canadian birth certificate?

I have to go to Columbus, OH in March and was wondering what I need.

An offi9cial Photo ID (drivers license) and a proof of citizenship (birth certificate or citizenship card) will suffice to get into the U.S. for at least the rest of this year.

However, it would be advisable to get a passport for your own convenience sometime this year, so you are ready when the rules change.

The above information refers only to travel on land ... any other mode of transportation requires a passport.

Your only option is to drive. You need a passport to fly there, and there isn't enough time to process a passport by then.

You need a drivers license and birth certificate. A drivers license to prove identity, and a birth certificate to prove citizenship. With the move toward passports, I wouldn't go with less than the 2 documents anymore. Too much hassle.

The EARLIEST you need a passport to drive to and from Canada is January 2008. The implementation date is not firmly set, it depends on if they are ready. IT can be 12 to 18 months.

You only need the passport if you are flying into the US.
Passports will be mandatory in Jan 2008.
For now a birth certificate and picture ID still works.
Although they like the passports.
I travel back and forth from the US and Canada often.

As of right now, you need no Passport to enter the US from Canada. What you need is a passport to RETURN to Canada.

In 2008, you need a passport either way.
