I learn Japanese and can't find any conversation partners. I mean, these people are generally busy with their ESL classes, they have a bunch of classmates there and that's good enough for them. Others go to colleges and there are plenty of Americans there to meet. I'm just a simple person, not into fashion, not into doing all these crazy activities, so they are not really interested in me. I even tried writng ads online and nobody responds. So whatever.

Do you guys think i can get good enough at the language by speaking to myself outloud? Is that usually something that helps just as much as having a conversation partner?

It's not easy to be isolated but if you talk out loud to yourself in public you may find yourself ostracized as a semi-sane boogieman. There should be other people like yourself, it's not easy to find a good friend but you should be able to locate conversation partners. I'd be talking so store clerks, waiters, fireman, police, at least till they got tired of me. You could get a dog and talk to the dog and this maybe able to help break the ice for you. There are dog lovers everywhere. Good Luck.
P.S. I wish this could have been in Japanese for you.

That's EXACTLY what I do when learning a foreign language, when I have a lack of native speakers to work with. Almost every night, I go for a walk at 10:00 PM, and I walk through a neighborhood or some other isolated area (leaving my wallet at home of course!) and when I feel like it, I just speak to myself out loud (but not too loud!!) in the target language. I'd say go for it, as long as you're isolated and almost no one could hear you - otherwise you could be considered semi-insane, as one answerer above noted. Good luck!

It's not as good as having a conversation partner, because you don't get any new things that you didn't already know. But I think it's better than nothing. I used to talk to myself in Spanish all the time, and I sometimes came up with grammatical questions that I could ask my teacher. Don't forget to listen to movies, music, etc. in Japanese and read it too, if you can.

Thats a tough one. I guess it depends on how determined you are to learn the language. I dont know about speaking it to yourself outloud but you can just use it in everyday conversation, even if they dont know what you are saying tell them after you say it, that way its kinda like you are drilling certain phrases and words into your own head at the same time. Practice makes perfect. Repetition is key.
