It means that your doctor may want to draw more blood in the future to test it again to make sure you actually have hypothyroidism, which means your body doesn't produce enough of the hormones put out by your thyroid. The thyroid is the body's thermostat and controls things like metabolism. When your thyroid is not producing enough hormones, you metabolism drops, as well as other functions. Some people have mild hypothyroidism, others are more severe. All are treated pretty much the same way.
There are many things you can do to control it, but it can never be cured. I was diagnosed four years ago, and have taken Synthroid every day since. It takes awhile to get it regulated, but it makes such a big difference. You also will have to pay special attention to your body's needs. You may need more sleep, less calories, more exercise, and pay special attention to good nutrition, since essentially your body is in slow motion. I've made alot of those changes and my energy level has improved and I have very few symptoms. I've also been able to maintain my weight, so please don't fall back on hypothyroidism as an excuse to be unhealthy. Think of it as a reason to do more to give your body what it really needs: exercise, water, healthy meals, and plenty of rest.
Try a google search. There is lots of info about hypothyroidism out there.

There is a good chance with low thyroid that you will gain weight or are already overweight because your body's "furnace" does not burn calories as fast as if it did if you had regular thyroid function.
It is actually very tough to treat, and you will most likely have some level of low thyroid for the rest of your life.

Don't worry its treated very easily. Just have to take a pill everday and occasional blood tests. There are worse things you could have.
