Let me explain something to some people who will try and bash Islam (my religion) as i know it will come soon.
In Islam no woman is OPPRESSED into wearing a hijab
it is by her choice
i do not wear one and it is on me.,..it is my decision.
My mother and aunt and cousin and etc... all wear one but i do not for i do not choose to
Is Islam it is said that "Heaven is under the feet of the woman:"
We are prized
but in some religions it is not so
I believe that Islam is not oppresive and is one of many beautiful religions..
im a Muslim and by that title i go by Gods words.
I do NOT believe in violence, drinking, premarital sex etcc...
i wish people would read the Qurans words and not listen to Fox news so much

In a lot of Muslim countries women have no choice about what they wear, whether by law or by serious social pressure. And they have to stay home until the get married and then they stay home when they are married unless their husband or brother can make time to take them out? Why? Because men can't control themselves? Men do a pretty good job controlling themselves in the West, even if the women are "half-naked."

So are Muslim women oppressed? In many places the answer is yes. Find out more about the religion you belong to.

Islam is oppresive because it's forced upon others. Us Christians are being constantly murdered, raped, and persecuted by Muslims. Just because we're Christian and won't be Muslim. That's how. And what does half naked women have to do with Christians? America is not a Christian nation. (Meaning that hardly anyone in it is actually a Christian.)

Yes! I agree completely. It baffles me how some people see modesty as oppressive and see looking like a prostitute and therefore getting NO respect for your ideas and no respect as a human being freedom. And isn't it oppressive of people or countries (France, Turkey, parts of the UK) to not allow people to wear what they want, even if that includes covering themselves? If a woman wants to cover herself, you're taking away her freedom to do so by bashing her, criticizing her, or giving her mean looks.

People who say it's oppressive to women haven't bothered to look into it. I used to think that before I converted that it generally was. Once I bothered to research it I found that it treats women equally, or at least better than a lot of other religions. Islam gave women rights in the Middle East like the right to own property, divorce, and keep their own money long before women in Europe ever got them.

Some countries like Iran and Saudi Arabia are oppressive to women in some ways. But that doesn't mean that those countries represent true Islam. People need to stop looking at practitioners of one religion as a representation of what that religion really is. If we all looked at others as an example, we'd all be atheists!

Christian ladies don't walk around half naked. We wear what is the custom of our countries just like you do. Christians usually dress modestly. I really know very little about Islam.

I think it's oppressive when people are kidnapped and then forced to convert at the edge of a blade. I think it's oppressive when women are routinely murdered by their families for 'dishonoring' the family. I think it's oppressive when fanatical asswipes strap explosives to their bodies and murder and maim innocent men, women and children in the name of Allah, hoping for their 72 virgins. I think it's oppressive when muslim school children are taught Jews and Christians are the spawn of pigs and monkeys. I think it's oppressive when a nutcase like 'president' of Iran can threaten the world with nuclear annhiliation with impugnity. I think it's oppressive that muslim countries have imprisoned hundreds of thousands of muslim refugees for over 60 years. I think it's oppressive that blacks in the Sudan are systematically murdered by muslims. I think it's oppressive that tens of thousands of non-muslims were murdered in Algeria in the 1990s. I think it's oppressive that western europe is being Islamicized.

Need I continue?

Only some narrow-minded Christians call Islam oppressive.

I agree that walking around half-naked is tempting others and wrong. That's too extreme. But so is covering yourself and being uncomfortable all the time to avoid tempting others.

I believe there is a middle ground ... dress modestly.
