It's been awhile since I've done jury duty and the last time I did it, I believe I called in several days and sat the entire time just waiting for my number to be called before getting released, not even making it to a trial. What are the odds of me calling in daily and having to go in and sit all 4 days of my time without going to trial - does that happen often? I just want to be prepared with stuff in case I do have to sit all day long waiting.

It works exactly as you said. If they get a lot of responses from their call lists, your chances diminish for being chosen to sit on a jury unless you are at the top of the list to be questioned and are particularly desirable to one of the lawyers. Otherwise, you just have to sit it out and wait your turn perhaps not ever getting called in to the courtroom. I WISH I had such an opportunity but I move too often for them to get me on a call list. It's a great way to serve the justice system.

You will probably sit and wait and perhaps get an interesting case, or perhaps not. Take a laptop, book, magazines, video game or whatever....
