There are 80,000 registered charities in Canada who report $11 billion in donations annually. Donations given is not all ending up in the hands of those who really need it? Don't you think it would be better if people started giving money directly to those who are poor? People could try to find out who the poor families are and transfer money directly into the poor families bank accounts. Approximately $11 billion donations annually in Canada alone.

Rich get richer = Poor get poorer
Charities = Billion Dollar Industry

Charities should be researched thoroughly because there are numerous unethical charities.

Family and friends can provide information like names, addresses, and phone numbers of those they know in poor Countries that are in need financially. They could discuss amongst each other how they can transfer money.

Networking = giving
Giving = reduced poverty
Reduced poverty = pay it forward
Pay it forward = reduced suffering

In some ways, I agree with you.

However, the money is used to pay people who work for the charities (there are paid employees of some charities, that's how they actually manage to continue their work), to pay for web space, marketing and postage for marketing materials, events, items sold (for example, the Susan G. Komen Foundation has a gift shoppe on their website, they use part of their funds to manufacture the items on there). Charities are non-profit BUSINESSES, and there are always basic costs of business. There are very few charities that collect "free money", where it really costs them nothing and they can give 100% to the people the charity is for. Even the Salvation Army has to pay for red buckets and signs at Christmastime.

I do agree, though, research should be done if you give to a charity, to make sure they make the most with the money they're given.

I found that organizations like for example the Salvos are increasingly run like business, there is little charity left in charitable organizations, it is about the dollar and efficiency. I also witness a lot of waste of the donation collected since they prefer to throw it in rubbish bins rather than giving it to people in need.

Most of the money goes into "administration costs". Put simply it goes into the pockets of the people that run the "charity".
