Can abbatoirs and animal slaughterers really be trusted. Turkeys with Bird flu. Cows with BSE..Chickens with Salmonella.

Sausages made with embryos, tumors, cancer, eyes, excrement, urine and steroids...How can they expect us to eat this stuff?

Give us safe food...or we'll go vegetarian.

Yes, I'm still eating turkey (and a lot of other meats) but I take my time to research which companies are more trust worthy. I also shell out the extra money to buy the animals that haven't been pumped full of steroids and whatnot. I have considered going vegetarian, and if I can't find the trustworthy brands while shopping, I don't eat meat that week.

I'm no vegetarian but a couple of years ago while eating around a friends house he gave me chips, sausages and baked beans.

However, these were no ordinary sausages. They were quorn sausages. He didn't tell me that they were non meat before I started eating and I couldn't believe it when he did as they tasted just like meat sausages.

However, quorn products do not contain the crap you mentioned above which routinely appear in the cheaper processed meat products. Its no coincidence that junk email is called spam as this meat product (which was developed in the 2nd world war when there were food shortages) is made from all those revolting animal parts such as brain and intestines which are left over in normal food production.

I now eat quorn products routinely along with fish and plenty of fruit and veg as these products taste as good to me as meat but they are much healthier.

The perfect compromise!!

It's the governments job to tighten the regulations and enforcement, which on the face of it has been pretty poor to date.We have the usual problem of political complacency and secrecy. There will always be people like mr matthews trying to cut costs , the government must act.
personally I aviod meat from supermarkets cos that's where the costs are really cut, but will people pay a bit more for good quality food??

You can't catch bird flu from eating cooked turkey, only by coming into contact with a sick bird. Chickens don't "have" salmonella, it is a bacteria that they naturally contain, which can be harmful to humans if ingested, but shouldn't be a problem if you cook it properly.

But i do agree with you, processed meat is disgusting, and it is scary to think we put our health in these peoples hands.

Well you aren't going to catch bird flu from cooked turkey.
However, I long ago stopped eating mass market factory farmed poultry. It's disgusting - filthy, cruel, additive laden, low quality, unnatural rubbish. Yuk.

It sounds perfectly revolting ... and you haven't mentioned genetically modified vegetables.

However, I'm still eating cooked turkey.
