We don't have a cat flap so it's either out or in, and she left us a "contribution" (because she was locked in all night) the same day our biggest ever gas bill arrived, so we're thinking keep the door shut and let her sleep in the conservatory, which isn't heated but got a box with a towel in it... she's got a big shaggy coat, she should be ok? (temperatures around 7 degrees centigrade)

If a cat is used to being in, it can get cold if it has to stay out all night. The conservatory is probably alright, but put a heating pad set on low under the towel.

Better yet, get her a litter box she can use when she has to be in the conservatory all night. You can clean it in the morning so it won't stink the place up. If you get the right kind of litter, it won't stink anyway.

I also have a cat but no cat flap in our house. When i first came across my cat she was a stray and needed alot of tlc to make her feel comfortable enough to come inside the house - during which i used to put her outside at night and then let her inside in the morning. I live in Spain so the nights don't tend to get extremely cold but in the winter they drop to about 5 degrees. I let her sleep in the house now especially since it is winter but your cat should be fine as long as it is sheltered from the wind and rain. Putting a towel down is a good idea as it will keep her warm. Also, if you put an old news paper under the towel where she sleeps it will act as extra insulation for her if you are still worried. A cats fur will thicken naturally if they are exposed to cool temperatures, it may pay to invest in a little cat bed they are not
too expensive but are comfy and warm. I hope this has been helpful to you.

Yes, cats can get cold outside, they are not a well equipped as dogs are when it comes to cold temps. Consider getting a litter box and keeping her indoors until the weather clears up.

Hell yea cats get cold. Did you ever consider a litter box?
If it's too cold for you then it's too cold for the cat, dog, bird...get the idea?

Cats do not like to get cold.

I urge you to get a kitty litter box.
