Why do most Christians pick and chose parts of the Bible to follow? More specifically, why do most Christians not cover their hair and then target Islam, saying that it's oppressive to women because it says women must cover their hair?
Don't believe me? 1 Corinthians 11 says women should cover their hair. Early Church Fathers like Hermas, Clement of Alexandria and Tertullian mentioned headcoverings, and Christian art shows women wearing headcoverings.

For those of you "geniuses" who are telling me you don't have to because Jesus died and it's in the Old Testament and a Jewish thing - 1 Corinthians is in the NEW Testament.

In case you can't read well, I'd like to point out I'm not including all Christians. I thought it was obviously when I kept saying "most" - meaning, a majority but not all.

I'm with you on that. Women should also be kept in the house and care for the kids and cook meals. Let's get this shiit back to where we came from!

Some parts of the Bible are socially out of date-for example covering ones head, which does not make one closer to God. The Bible also says that "Every animal that has a split hoof not completely divided or that does not chew the cud is unclean for you; whoever touches the carcass of any of them will be unclean"(Leviticus 11:26). But how many Christians eat pork-furthermore, the Bible never specifically says that slavery is wrong, and just because it doesn't, doesn't make it right. When you make mention of a female covering your head-you are recalling a centuries old tradition-such as a wife giving her husband a concubine to have kids with. And when some Christians say that Islam is oppressive, we do not specifically mean the Hijabs (headdresses) that the Koran orders them to wear. We view Islam to be oppressive because it denies its women of basic and unalienable rights guaranteed to every human being. Thus to some Christians (excluding me), wearing a Hijab is should be optional, personally as long as its not hurting anyone-who cares. Still, as you said, some Christians will always call Islam oppressive, no matter what they allow or disapprove. Its just another example of individuals not minding their own business or expressing opinion where it is not wanted.

In Corinthians, Paul is addressing the people of Corinth and, specifically, in chapter 11 he addresses not simply "head coverings" but a cultural norm at the time-husband and wife relationship and the hierarchy of a marriage. Modern day Christian women don't cover their heads for many reasons. First, we view this passage as a cultural mandate specifically addressed to the people of the Corinthian church(you'll need to understand more about the book of Corinthians and Paul to understand that). Second, some believe a woman's hair is her covering(1 Cor. 11:15). Third, modern day Christian women view their husbands as their covering...if they yield to his ultimate decision making as head of the house. This passage is not only about head coverings, it was about addressing the Corinth women and letting them know that they need to respect their husbands and the Church by covering their heads-as was a sign of submission(yielding).
I don't know which Christians you've been speaking to, but I don't think Muslim women are oppressed b/c they cover themselves. It's their culture and a command from Allah. Which is very different from what you find in Corinthians...it isn't a command from God. I hope this helps!

Yes, they should cover their hair in church, as the hair is considered the crowning glory of a woman. This was probably because men spent their time staring at the woman in front of them rather than listening to what was being said.
Nowadays, hair doesn't really have the same effect lol. I wouldn't mind if women did cover their hair, as long as those huge hats don't come back lol.

Christianity is a crucial based faith, no longer a rule based faith. The ethics and habit of Christians is guided via 2 principals: Love the lord with all your coronary heart, ideas, soul, and potential. And: Love thy neighbor as thy self. The bible is packed with many regulations, a number of which actual contradict one yet another. for this reason, many christians (liberals) use the above principals to settle on no remember if particular regulations are nevertheless relevelant or no longer. extra conservative christians attempt to obey each and each of the regulations, despite in the event that they conflict one yet another. besides the indisputable fact that, the Bible does says that ladies persons are meant to conceal their hair, a minimum of while praying. Having women persons's hair coated is a Christian custom relationship lower back 2,000 years. that is why nuns hide their hair even at present. besides the indisputable fact that, it has fallen out of fashion in contemporary situations. for people who say this is a "community" concern, seem at a million Corinthians 17-26, the subsequent passage. that is related to the establisment of Communion, a important sacrement shared via all Christians. If women persons protecting their hair is a "community" concern than so is Communion. do no longer difficulty to pass the bread or share the wine. Communion became in basic terms for the congregation Paul became addressin 1000's of years in the past, no longer you. Technically, conservative, bible believing women persons would desire to hide their hair, a minimum of in the event that they're praying. in spite of everything, they prefer to obey each and each of the regulations interior the bible. extra liberal christians probably does no longer. they have an inclination to interpret the bible, with the aid of a well-known eye. they do no longer in basic terms do each thing the bible says.

I could be wrong, but I've always taken that to mean unmarried woman. A woman's hair is her glory God says. It is used to attract a man. So when in Church or praying to God, a single woman should cover her hair so there is less distraction. A married woman is covered by her husband. Although it also says in The Holy Bible that long hair is a woman's covering. Maybe I'm safe either way since I'm married with long hair. If I'm wrong, I will answer to God for that. Islam is oppressive to woman though in many, many ways and not just by what a woman wears.
May God Bless you.

Paul well understood the culture and norms of his day. He asked the women to cover their hair because a woman used her hair to attract men to her. Once she had her man....why attract another? Today, women are told to cover their cleavage...One hundred years ago they were told to cover their lower legs and their forearms.
One must distinguish between Bible Custom and Bible rule. But How can you do that since the Bible is not for "private interpretation...."
You find yourself a prophet who can interpret the Bible for you like Moses or Isaiah, or Jesus, Or Peter or Paul....But you say "There are none today....." Then Why did John the revelator see two of them killed n the streets of Jerusalem at the last day?
If you want to find a living prophet, contact the LDS church. they have a living prophet.

I think you should be reading more about religion to make conclusions of this kind. Not everyone thinks that way about Islam and remember that all that prejudice against Muslims arised since the Twin Towers were destroyed by muslim believers. Also, remember that there is a very small group of people who think there is something terrible wrong with Islam, DO NOT INCLUDE ALL THE PEOPLE BECAUSE NOT EVERYONE IS GUILTY THAT PEOPLE THINK THAT WAY

Because they dont let them do things like drive, vote, or divorce as they choose.
Headcoverings were obviously very important back in the 1st century and held a lot of cultural significance. Kind of like if women were wearing just their bras and underwear to church in todays society. To a degree, we have to be careful to do what is right in sight of God and men alike!

It is indeed in the NT. I can remember being in Catholic churches not all that long ago and women were expected to cover their heads. Not sure if they still are, though.
It is a very picky religion though.
