Most rave over my garlic bread. Here's how I make it.
Cut a large French or Italian Loaf in half lengthwise. French is lighter than Italian so the choice is yours. Melt at least 1 stick of margerine or butter in the microwave. Add a about 1/2 tablespoon of crushed or chopped garlic or smash a couple of large cloves of garlic. Add to the butter and warm in microwave. Spread on the mixture on both halves of the bread with a basting brush and sprinkle with dried sweet basil. You may need more or less butter depending on the size of your loaves. Don't be skimpy with it. Bake for 5-7 min. open faced, then broil about 6" from broiler for about 30 seconds. Watch it carefully as it will burn quickly. Enjoy.
BTW, I only use garlic powder when I'm really desparate for garlic bread. The jars of crushed or diced garlic are so much better.

get a french stick, cut in half, then put half slices through the bread so that you can spread your garlic and butter inside, you might be able to buy a garlic butter already made or you can use garlic powder, butter and really finely choped parsely, mix together then spread in the slices that you made, then wrap in tin foil and put in the oven on bake for about 30-40 mins on 150 degrees not to sure what that works out to be in ferren. but just bake on medium and check that you bread is nice and hot or if you like it kinda crispy.

Room temp butter or margarine, sprinkle garlic powder, Parmesan cheese and just a shake of Italian seasoning.
Never tried it with cream cheese (doesn't sound good).

Homemade Garlic Cheddar Cheese Bread:
3¼ hours 2½ hours prep
2 loaves
2 1/4 cups milk
3 tablespoons butter
6 cups flour, more as necessary to correct stickiness
2 packages active dry yeast
2 tablespoons sugar
2 teaspoons salt
2 cups cheddar cheese, shredded
1 teaspoon garlic powder (I use more!)
1. Heat milk and butter to 120°F Combine half of flour, yeast, sugar, salt, milk and butter mixture, cheese, and garlic powder in a large bowl.
2. Knead with a mixer fitted with a dough hook at highest speed for 3 minutes.
3. Add the rest of the flour and continue kneading for 3 more minutes.
4. If the dough seems too sticky, slowly add more flour until the stickiness is corrected.
5. Place dough in a greased bowl, and spray the top of the dough with cooking spray.
6. Cover and let rise for one hour.
7. Punch the dough down and let it rest for 10 minutes.
8. Divide dough in half and form one loaf each in two greased 9 x 5 inch standard loaf pans.
9. Cover the pans with plastic wrap and allow dough to rise for 45-60 minutes.
10. Preheat oven to 375°F Bake loaves for 10 minutes; then turn oven down to 350F and bake for 30-35 minutes longer, until the breads are browned.
11. Cool in the pans for 5-10 minutes; turn out onto a wire rack and allow to cool for a minimum of 5-10 more minutes so the bread firms up enough to be cut.

You can soften the butter a little bit and then add garlic powder or garlic salt, either one will be good!. There is also this recipe with fetta cheese and garlic salt or garlic powder and it is amazing for spread. :)
