I need help in understanding the Pasadena CA neighborhoods. I'm looking for a residential area that is safe and more or less middle-class. I have small children. I work in Burbank.

Try Arcadia. It has one of the best school districts in the area. Low crime and populated mostly by (very) hard working orientals and retired folks.

The bad news is that the same things that make the place so desirable to live - make it too expensive for many people.

Look into Monrovia.

For schools go to www.greatschools.net, it gives test scores, teacher pupil ratios, etc etc. The good school areas have more expensive housing but they are also very family oriented because the schools are the reason the people live there.
