It was a black inventor, George Washington Carver, as pointed out in the earlier answers.

The weird thing is that he set out to figure out how many things you could make from peanuts to help the poor farmers. His other ideas didn't really work out as popularly as PB since they included adhesives, axle grease, bleach, buttermilk, chili sauce, fuel briquettes, ink, instant coffee, linoleum, mayonnaise, meat tenderizer, metal polish, paper, plastic, pavement, shaving cream, shoe polish, synthetic rubber, talcum powder and wood stain

I believe it was an African American...perhaps (as I I am not sure at all) it was George Washington Carver.

since it's Black History Month, i will be happy to say it is a black man who is George Washington Carver. and if you have ever seen the proud family movie they mention him.
