I put some ground beef in the fridge Thursday night to defrost for dinner on Friday. However, I ended up going out and wasn't home to cook on the weekend. I want to use it to cook dinner for tonight (Monday), but I'm a little standoffish.

I mean, it looks and smells just like any other raw ground beef, but I don't know if there's a shelf life in the fridge cuz I always keep it in the freezer.

Is it ok to use? Thanks!

Since your beef was frozen, the sell by date is irrelevant. After defrosting, I think anything past 3-4 days is pushing it. If you don't use it tonight, throw it out. Once it starts to smell, it's already been unsafe to eat for a couple of days, so don't wait for that. Just be sure you cook it thoroughly and at the correct temperature.

Check the "Sell By" date on the package. Raw meat, if kept in fridge, will keep approximately 3 days after "Sell By" date. If the meat looks fresh (red/pink, not brown) and it smells fresh, I would use it, but if you are worried, take extra care to cook it well done and not serve rare or medium.

I think you're alright. I've even used it if it was a little brown on the outside, but it was 95% red on the interior. When the meat starts to stink, that's it. You're probably safe until Tuesday or Wednesday.
