We have a DSC alarm, that has an electric transformer that plugs into the wall. When it is plugged in -- it emit an low-volume oscillating hum -- that is fairly disturbing.

Any idea how I can eliminate it without keeping it unplugged?

Thanks

You cannot do anything but replace it. If it is humming the plates of iron in the transformer have delaminated. It still will work fine, the flat plates are used to prevent eddy currents from flowing in the metal so they are insulated from each other with epoxy. Sometimes they separate partially and this hums at the frequency of the power line as the magnetic field grows strong and falls. It is more noticeable in Europe and places using 50Hz power but can bother people at 60Hz too.

You can't. Either buy a unit made with higher quality parts, or just leave it plugged in until the sound becomes part of the background noise.

in the transforemer, there is protection relay it is opertes lower than defective difficulty and if important fault occures it is going to holiday the transformer, so no want to emphasize that it will blow, besides the undeniable fact that you basically tell the electric powered organization concerning to this, they are going to come and examine this..
