Oh my gosh lately I have been making my rice in the microwave and it comes out absoulty perfect. I was quite amazed.
I use a microwave safe casserole dish with fitted lid and add
two cups long grain brown
5 cups stock
1 tablespoon butter I don't use salt because of the stock.
Place in the microwave 5 mins on the high heat setting then 43 minutes at half the heat or 50% heat. After that let sit 10 minutes then fluff with fork.

if you make rice alot, then get a rice cooker. PERFECT rice everytime, no fail! It's a god send for Indian women!

They are inexpensive at Linen n Things or Bed Bath & Beyond.
Even Target or Walmart probably carry them.

The ratios of rice/water vary slightly among rice varieties. For long grained or Basmati it's (2: 1, water to rice). In a rice cooker,
all varieties will come out perfect & there's an auto shut off.
You can even use it for pulaos & other flavored rice dishes.

Stovetop works well, but I have never had luck using a microwave or oven.
