I take photos of birds in my garden and im looking for a tele-converter for canon 300d with sima 170-500mm lens,not ex dg
that ive been told are not compatable, any info please

You can use a 1.4x or 2x tc if you want, but with tele-converters and apertures over f/5.6 you lose AF. Since the 170-500mm has a maximum aperture of f/5 to begin with and the tc adds another stop or two, this means that the auto-focus will NEVER work.
The 300D has a pretty small viewfinder and like all dSLR cameras it lacks a split-prism, so manual focusing isn't a pleasant prospect. For around $100 you could buy a split-prism screen from Katz Eye Optics. A 300D probably doesn't justify this investment, but it's something to consider.
Also note that adding a tc degrades the image quality.

Its a pretty slow lens f/5.6-6. Not ideal for wildlife photography. But of course if your on a bugget its probably the best you can do. You will want to check the mounts since Sigma makes it for Nikon, Canon, etc. Most websites will say Canon, or Nikon Compatable. The Canon mounts are EF mounts.
