It is too high in protein. Put the cat food on a counter where the dog can't get it. Or, if the dog doesn't go into a particular room, feed the cat in there. Cat food, over time, will make a dog obese, plus the dog will not have the proper nutrients that he needs, if he eats only the cat food.

No this won't hurt him. The reason he eats the cat food before the dog food is because cat food has a more intersting smell and taste then dog food. Try placing the food in a room where you can place up a baby gate or in another place the dog can't get.

It won't hurt the dog but it's not really good for the dog either since cats and dogs have different dietary needs. Try putting the cat food bowls up high or find a way to keep the dog out of the room where you feed your cats. My shih tzu did the same thing. it finally got to the point to where we put up child gates ate the entrences to where the cat food was. And they aren't that expensive. If you can't do child gates find something to block it but where you can step over it. and feed dog in different room from cats. We feed the dog in the living room and cats in the kitchen. it really does work. Good luck

No, the cat food will not hurt your dog. I have a dog, and he gets into the cat food every now and then. He has never had a problem with it. Just make sure you dog doesn't get into ALL THE TIME! Good luck :-)

If he is still getting his regular dog food and getting the proper vitimins and minerals from that the cat food should not hurt him except that it may make him gain a few pounds and your cat my go hungry. Why not put the cat food up high where the dog cannot get it but the cat still can.

A little bit wont hurt him, but its not good for him to be eating it all the time.
I have the same problem with my dog, she thinks cat food is some sort of special treat, Lol.
I set up a space on the counter in the kitchen over in the corner for the cat's food. Bought a pretty mat and stuff, and I feed him up there now. It works beautifully. : )
Good Luck!

My dog does the same thing, and my cat eats my dog's food. The dog has acted ok.,she actually goes in the litter box and helps herself too. YUCK! She's done fine and I take her regularly to the vet. I put the cat's food up on the washing machine. She can always get to it but the dog can't. Hope this helps.

unless your dog has a disease or something (diabetis like mine) probobly not. its just animal food right? whats gonna happen? your dog turn into a cat?!? that would be funny ^_^ but i would just pur your cat food on a high table or counter. maybe even get a little cat door and put your food and litter box in a seprate room. that's what we do.
your cat might not want to push the cat door open, so you might need to just leave it taped open. but unless you have a very small dog that wont be a problem. if you DO have a small dog, there's a SMALL chance that it could get on a counter or table top. so put the food there

A dog will not get sick from eating cat food. Cat food has more sodium than dog food because cats need more than dogs.

Nothing too serious will happen. My puppy used to eat my cats food and she would poop a lot more. Now whenever the cats arent eating it we just set the bowl on the counter so the dog can't get to it.
