We just bought an HDTV. We wanted to upgrade to an HD package with dish network. We thought we only signed a one year contract with them a year and a half ago. They wanted $300.00 for the equipment to upgrade!! Concast had a better plan and it would only cost us 100.00. We already have comcast hooked up and we LOVE it! However dish network told us we are loked in for another 6 months. They are telling us we have to pay $200.00 to end our contract. Is there any way to get out without paying? Our service was always good. The customer service always sucked though. Please help.

Tell them that you need to suspend your service, due to going out of the country for 6 months, or relocating to to temporary housing for work or something like that. At the end of the 6 months, cancel your service free and clear.

I am in the same boat as you I have a HDTV for my living room but with my HDTV and using the dish625 box it actually looked pretty good being only SD. But, when I bought another HDTV for the wall for my bedroom it looked horrible. So I wanted to get HD service also, but I wanted to get two boxes one for the living room and one for the bedroom. They quoted me 175 for the first box on the lease and 549 for the second box and that I could only buy it. I'm really looking to switch to Time Warner cable which installation would only be around 80 bucks for the two rooms and the service would be the close to the same price each month. So I may bite the bullet and pay the money to end the contract cause paying that and the installation on Time Warner will still come out cheaper. Dish has no love for their current customers instead of getting an upgrade they end up getting people who are canceling.

I used to work for Dish aka Echostar. You have to go for the rest of your contract. Call them and tell them that you are thinking about quitting due to a customer satisfaction issue. Act really mad and they will cut you a deal. Like give you free premium channels for something like that. Hope this helps.

By the way...Comcast will bite you in the butt later on. After their "introductory" rate has gone away it will be a lot more than dish. Also, if you have been with dish for a while and paid on time. Tell them...I have made my payments, can you waive the fee for the upgraded equipment? See if they do anything then.
