As I read through these posts I'm amazed at the amount of people who don't use punctuation.

Do they just choose not to use it?
Do they not know how to use it?
Or is it just quicker to type without it?

It drives me CRAZY!

Ashley: You're absolutely correct. The grammer is just ridiculous sometimes. I started to read a post a few minutes ago and it started as: "My b/f and me was going to a restaurant. We was ...." and that's as far as I got. I paged back and went to something else.

People who write with no punctuation drive me beyond nuts. I have a hard time reading their sentences and often have to re-read them several times before I'm able to make any sense of them. My husband writes with little or no punctuation and I get a headache whenever I get an e-mail from him, especially if it's a long one. However, he has a valid excuse--a learning disability that made it difficult for him to recognize the need for punctuation. But even he is taking steps to learn. It took him a while to understand why punctuation is important. I drove the point home by asking him what he thought of the following sentence:

Woman without her man is useless

He looked at me as if I'd grown two heads and said, "That's a horrible thing to say. Women are not useless without men!" I responded by saying, "You've interpreted it to read, 'Woman, without her man, is useless.' But look how a couple of slight punctuation marks change the entire meaning--'Woman! without her, man is useless." After realizing how important punctuation is, he started asking me to edit things he'd written and show him why I changed things. He's improved, despite the learning disability.

Most people are just lazy. I suppose it's quicker for some to type without it punctuation. It does take extra key strokes, so it's some extra effort. I don't see how it saves any time. When I learned to type, I learned to think the words being typed in my mind while I'm typing, along with pauses and the like, and so I punctuate naturally. It would take more time for me not to punctuate. I guess I'm just as lazy because I do punctuate, eh?

English is not my first language. I try to be correct when possible. Sometimes i make the sentence short, with abbreviations, because I figured you could still understand, what i am trying to write. If reading a short story, and getting to point across; why do we feel the need to write a page long, when the same can be said in one paragraph.

It doesn't bother me as long as it's understandable. If they haven't even got a decent point it's a bit tiresome working it all out though. But some people just aren't good at grammer and suchlike. I study English, but I think on Y!A, a bit of wrong grammar isn't exactly the end of the world. It's kinda petty to care about it. But then I have other pet hates!

It drives me nuts...I will admit I am guilty of not using it sometimes, but its usually only when I am really tired, or typing while trying to do something else. But those people who don't even bother to separate their scentances, that drives me batty.

While we're on the topic of puntcuation, what about basic grammer? If you went to school for more than a day, you should know that scentances have bacsic structure, and that please is not spelled PLZ!

It's just quicker to leave out punctuation. People are here to get answers quickly and or to rack up points.
