So Sunestar says not event he 10 commandments coutn anymore, and sites scripture to that effect... Cute Dancer just decides for herself which pars she likes and doesn't like... Farkas tells me its all clearly written in the NT, but doesn't site any scripture to support that... and, if "none of the Law of the Old testament is valid," then why all the anti-gay stuff, when that is all OT law?

What do you mean? The New Testament is specific on what is still valid and what isn't. The Ten Commandments are still valid. Animal sacrifices are not. The Proverbs are still valid. Being restricted on what can be eaten is not. The history is still valid. The prophesies are valid, even though they were all fulfilled.
What is there to be confused about? If one reads the New Testament, it's clear.

Finally, a decent question!
Thank you.
Most of the OT is of value.
2 Timothy 3:16 says:
"All Scripture is inspired of God and BENEFICIAL . . ."
The one and only thing that has changed is that section know as The Law.
That is, the law God gave to the Israelites through Moses.
It no longer applies.
Romans 10:4 says:
"Christ is the end of the Law.... "
Romans 7:6
Colossians 2:4
Ephesians 2:15 all say the same thing.
So, Christians are not held to follow the Law through Moses.
However, the history, the prophecies and the poetry are still of great value.

There is the old covenant which was God's promises and instructions to man prior to the death of Christ and the new covenant which is God's promises and instructions to man after the death of Christ. The interesting thing is that many of the instructions which were part of the old covenant are also part of the new covenant, such as the 10 commandments. Many Christians unfortunately pick and choose what parts of the old covenant still apply instead of studying and understanding the true differences between the two. An honest study of the 2 covenants will bring a much better understanding of the differences between the God as described in the old testament and the God as described in the new testament.

NONE of the law is still in effect. The validity of history and wisdom remains the same, but the law is different.

Ephesians 2:15 Through his body on the cross, Christ put an end to the LAW WITH ALL ITS COMMANDS AND RULES. He wanted to create one new group of people out of the two. He wanted to make peace between them.

Colossians 2:14 He wiped out the written Law with its rules. The Law was against us. It opposed us. He took it away and nailed it to the cross.

Galatians 2:16 ...No one can be made right with God by obeying the law.

Galatians 2:21 ...What if a person could become right with God by obeying the law? Then Christ died for nothing!

Galatians 5:4 Some of you are trying to be made right with God by obeying the law. You have been separated from Christ. You have fallen away from God’s grace... The ONLY verse that talks about falling from grace, and they did it by trying to follow the law!

Jesus said he didn’t come to destroy the law, but to fulfill it. (Matt 5:17) The effect was the same. Once fulfilled it was no longer in effect. The very next verse, Matthew 5:18, looks forward to the time when the law would be set aside. "...Not even the smallest stroke of a pen will disappear from the Law UNTIL EVERYTHING IS COMPLETED."

On the cross, Jesus' last recorded saying, "It is finished," is an important milestone. Because of Jesus life, Satan had been defeated. The law was finished and would no longer stand between God and mankind.

The 10 commandments along with the rest of the law ("commands and rules" from Ephesians 2:15) were "set aside" when they were fulfilled or completed at Jesus' resurrection. We are no longer bound by that law.

If you are a Christian, none of the laws in the Old Testament are valid. When Jesus died on the Cross for our sins the laws of Moses went with him. The Old Testament is filled with history, stories of God's love and even some things that haven't yet happen. For instance Ezekial 38 and 39 correspond with Revelation. The Psalms and Proverbs provides us with songs and wisdom.

All of the old testament is valid; but, not all of it is directly applicable to your life now. As another poster mentioned, a lot of it has to do with giving you historical context for why things were the way they were during the new testament.

For example, the animal sacrifices were for the atonement of sins. But, Jesus--being the ultimate sacrifice--died to atone for all of our sins. We no longer need animal sacrifices because it's already been done. Though it's not the only reason, providing the context of animal sacrifices helps people to understand Jesus' sacrifice.

The old testament may sound like it contradicts the new testament but it doesn't. If you read it and study it, you'll see that it really fits together.

Jesus said, "Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them." Matt 5:16-18

It's all still valid, however, some or most parts may not pertain to you. If you are not a Jew, most of it doesn't apply...so don't sweat it. What does apply are 1. No idolatry, 2) Don't murder, 3) Don't steal, 4) don't engage in sexual immorality, 5) no blasphemy, 6) do not eat the flesh of a live animal, 7) set up a system of justice.

All of the Old Testament is still good for helping you to live a good life. The 10 commandments are laws that show you that you need a Savior. We all break them from time to time, hard as you may try to keep them. When you realize that you can't that is when you leave it to Jesus and His loving forgiveness. Hope I helped you.

Every part of the Old Testament is still valid in this time period as far as it is translated correctly. If it is a bad version of the text then it may not be valid, but the real and true Old Testament is still valid(well minus some of the punishments like stoning etc. we have better law now)
