If it is a puppy and is eating three times a day you should just feed it puppy food. Puppy food has everything that a puppy needs. Make sure you are following the amount of food stated on the bag per day.

Pups can be free-fed, so as long as you're feeding a high quality diet, you'll be fine.
Make sure the diet is either puppy specific, or the food is for 'all life stages.' Feeding a senior diet, for example, won't give him everything he needs.
I would recommend Canidae Dog Food. It is a good 'all life stage' diet, so you don't need to worry about buying different food as the dog grows. It also has a good Omega 3 & 6 balance, so your dog's coat will always look shiny and healthy.
Hope this info helps. Have a good one!

The reason it's not a good idea to give a dog cat food is because dogs and cats need completely different things in their food to keep them healthy. It's just like it if you fed dog food to a human... Cats diets and dogs diets need different amounts of vitamins and nutrients. My suggestion would be to feed your dog her regular dog food but mix in some cheese and full fat plain greek yogurt. Not only will this be very tasty to your dog, but it will hopefully cause them to eat more food AND the cheese and yogurt will add some fat to their diet. Any dog I have ever had has LOVED cheese and yogurt. Also, does she have a kong? If not, a long is basically a piece of rubber with a hollow centre that you can fill with peanut butter. Also, you can mix yogurt and her kibble and then fill the long with that and freeze it. She might like too and it will help add more calories and fat to her diet. Also, would it be possible to always keep food in her bowl rather than offering it to her twice a day? The reason most people don't keep food in the bowl at all times is because most dogs will overeat but it might help your dog. Have you talked to her vet about this? It sounds serious if she is missing days at a time from eating... Good luck!

Feed your puppy a nutritionally balanced food designed for that breed of puppy - for example there are foods specifically available for giant breeds. If your pup isn't gaining weight, it might be worth a visit to the vet. There are reasons dogs don't gain weight such as parasites, intestinal problems. You also don't want your pup to gain too much weight too fast as, depending on breed, there may be a link between orthopedic conditions such as OCD and rapid growth rates as a puppy. Also, be sure to feed your dog raw meaty bones for optimal dental health.

I had a pup who wouldn't gain wait and ending up getting sick. The vet I saw told me it's not so much what and how much but frequency to gain weight. I fed her 4-6 times a day about a cup or so and she gain weight quickly and she was much more healthy in following the vet recommendations.
I have to agree a good brand that I have found is Hills. Also you can look up online a comparison to each brand to find percentage of protein and other important ingreds they need. Check the magazine DogFancy--they often have comparisons.
And I would recommend checking with the vet to assure there isn't something going on with the digestive system! Hope that helps some.

I am not really sure what reason it is your dog needs to gain weight, but for a puppy of that age I would reccomend BLUE BUFFALO puppy chow. They have several varieties of sizes and flavors. It's a holistic and healthy brand that provides plenty of nutrition for your little one. They also have a canned wet food which is great to mix with the dry BLUE BUFFALO puppy chow to give your puppy extra calcium and protein to grow big and strong. You can find it at your local Petsmart or Petco in a tan and blue bag. Hope this helps you out, and good luck with your pup!

Hmmm, the dog food, as long as it's a good one, shouldn't matter.
I'm concerned the puppy might have a problem if he's not gaining weight. You should take him in if you've already treated him for the normal stuff like worms.

Any brand. just make sure it is puppy food and not full grown dog food. most brands have a certain food to help dogs gain weight, just like they have stuff for urinary tracts and hairballs for cats. Also you could try feeding it a little more than normal, but not too much.

Please use a good premium dry dog food, depends on what country you are in and what breed of dog you have, try
Nutro, Techni-cal, Hills, Royal Canine, they are the best on the UK market and are not made in the same factory as James Wellbeloved, Burns, Arden Grange - Gold Acres make most of the UK brands for everyone.
