I'm a very shy 20 year old college student. Between August and December I was depressed alot about being alone and how I am. After Christmas I went on the first date of my life, but the girl and I ended up not clicking so I'm alone again. I haven't really been depressed (except for one time) since the beginning of the year, most ly because I've been ignoring all that kind of stuff. Tomorrow I will see people with flowers and balloons and stuff and I need to convince myself that It's ok that I'm alone.

Your answer is in your question - it is all Valentine's CRAP - a commercialized marketing ploy to get people to spend money in February - the lowest retail sales month of the year. Florists would starve waiting for Mothers' Day if it weren't for Valentines' Day. So would candy shops because most people go on diets after Christmas. My husband and I have been happily married for 35 years and when we got engaged i told him to PLEASE never cave in to the Valentine's CRAP - just let me know I am loved all year by being faithful to me. Guys who are still paying off Christmas get cranky when they feel pressured to buy more bling/flowers/candy/dinners. Girls get psychotic not knowing whether or not a gift or card will turn off a new "steady guy". This is just nuts and people will hopefully wise up and rebel against theis FORCED SHOW OF AFFECTION. It means absolutely nothing and teachers should be the first to banish it from schools. Kids are stressed enough without being called "unwanted" at an early age, or teased mercilessly. Tomorrow when you see all the balloons and stuff, just smile sympathetically at the goon carrying it and "tsk, tsk" when he passes. If someone asks how come ou didn;t get a card, grin mysteriously and say that your heart has secrets and your love doesn't need to be paid. It will drive them crazy. Better to be shy and smart than a "player" and broke and used!
