Be sure you research breeders well and get a dog from recent hunting stock. I'm no expert, but I strongly suspect that some lines of Springers I've encountered are bred only for looks and not for hunting qualities.

Great dogs for that combo.. Most are very well behaved and not at all hyper at home and yet hit the afterburner in the field. I still get a kick out of them proving their name in the tall grass--BOING!

my dad bred springers and they are wonderful house dogs and great hunters. as long as they get to hunt as this is what comes naturally to them, you'll have a great companion.

great dogs ours is just turned two years old and you couldnt ask for a better dog she was very easy to train is very loving and affectionate but could walk he hind legs of a donkey so be prepared for very long walks. Also if you get your dog neutered there coat tends to go a bit haywire

Just make sure you are ready to handle a high energy dog in the house.
Spaniels are hyper......can your house.......can YOU take that?
They won't be a lap dog for a few years.

Well they're lovely dogs but I wouldn't have another unless I was using it for the gun or field & kept it outside. My last one ate most of my kitchen!
