In my experience, you cannot 'cure' depression - you can make it easier to live with though. These are the things that help me live with my depression.

1) Talk - bottling things up doesn't help. Externalise your emotions. Work through your thoughts, and try and understand why you are having them, and if they are helpful or not.

2) Keep a diary - work out what 'triggers' you have, make lists of things that make you feel good and things that make you feel bad. Look at your lists often.

3) Eat healthily - don't drink, avoid caffine and sugar. Lots of fresh food, fruit and vegetables.

4) Stick to a sleep pattern. Go to bed at the same time each night and get up at the same time - even if you don't sleep at all in the night. Stick to 8 hours and don't sleep in.

5) Get outside for an hour a day - walk in the fresh air and clear your head.

6) Socialise - keep in touch with friends and family. Get out and meet people.

7) Set goals. Set realisitic, achievable and positive goals. This are personal - I set goals such a doing a course, joining an exercise class, sticking to my diet etc.

8) Give yourself a break - you aren't going to get better overnight, you are allowed slip ups. REmember that no one judges you as harshly as you judge yourself.

9) Talk to your doctor - ask what help is available and take it! Talking therapies help a lot of people, and CBT or conselling or something similar may help you. Medication is an option, but remember that it is your body - you can decide what goes in.

10) Talk to people who understand - it can be isolating feeling like you are the only person in the world with this awful illness. Talk to people who understand that some days it is too hard to get dress and who understand the reason why you stand in the supermarket crying over which tuna. It is liberating to know that other people are in the same boat - share tips on how to keep positive.

This question is more complicated than it seems. The depression itself is a complicated thing, because everyone's depression is different. The best way of curing depression? Well all I know is that it is possible to cure depression the natural way with no medicine. I know this because I did beat my depression which was there for 18 years and it was very deep. But not everyone is strong enough to fight it.

This great website shows how it's possible... all I can say is : This stuff works!

Sometimes there is no "cure." Like many of the responders have pointed out; it may be (in no specific order) situational, chemical, or just some serious baggage you need to work out.

If depression persists, bite the bullet and see a psychologist (talk therapy) in order to help find the cause of your issue. You and your therapist may find that you have a chemical imbalance and require medication as well. You will then need to see a psychiatrist (a doctor who can prescribe meds.) If that is the case I would recommend you continue to see the "talk shrink" as they can help you learn to deal with your illness, while the meds remove the variable that is the physical malady.

Have you looked at your diet?
Diets loaded with sugars and simple carbs can cause mood swings, depression, fatigue, teary crying, headaches, and generally feeling down. A sugar-free, balanced diet with complex carbs, healthy fats and enough protein makes a world of difference. You'd be surprised at how many people just can't tolerate the amount of sugar they eat.

From the website: "Are you moody or depressed, in need of revitalization and energy, or notice your behavior and mood changes from day to day? Do you have those days that are perfect and you feel on top of the world whereas other days you feel like you have hit rock bottom? Your mood and energy levels may be related to your diet.

What you eat affects your mental functioning. By choosing certain foods, you may be better able to balance your emotional and mental health. Putting the right fuel into your body may affect your performance and make the difference between a happy day and a grumpy day."

You should really see your doctor and perhaps have some counselling. One of the best natural ways of lifting depression is to get outside in the fresh air and get some exercise. This releases the body's natural endorphins which will help lift your mood and you will feel much better. Also, take care of yourself, eat well, sleep well, don't just mope around - get out and see some friends, confide in your family. Problems aren't so bad when they're shared.

Depression can not be cured.
Only treated.

Antidepressants work for some people.
Counselling works for others.
Others need both.

I don't think there is a cure for it. I think people try to learn to cope with it.
If you find the cure i think you could be a billionaire.

Sorry not much help and probably not the answer you're looking for.

To not focus on curing it. Depression isn't something to be "cured". It's something that you can learn to cope with, through various coping mechanisms, CBT, possibly medication - it totally depends on situation & neurobiological state. Go and speak to your doctor, and ask for further support.
