Well, I'm only an atheist as of yesterday. But it has been a long time since I've believed in a personal God.
I went on a date once with this extemely catholic girl who was just beside herself wtih sorrow that I didn't believe God had put me directly into my mother's womb. She asked how I could live like that.
I just looked at her and said, "I think it's great. I think all of this is even more beautiful because it is an accident." That statement put an incredible look of horror on her face.

I don't meet a lot of them up here. I do remember I kept getting checks in the mail addressed to "The Cross ing" and I took them up there and realized it was a makeshift church in the back of an old strip mall. I explained it looked like a check so I brought it up, blah blah blah. I just remember the look he had on his face when he looked down at my Satan Inside Tshirt (my wife works at Intel) that was pretty much the point where he stopped talking.

This extremely religious guy I knew who totally lacked common sense once told me that there is proof that god exists: If a man has a rib removed, it will grow back.
However the funniest thing I've ever heard (from the same guy) has to be: How did chihuahuas survive when the dinosours roamed the earth?
Seriously!

It's a toss up, there's so many to choose from!
“All your education won't help you any when Jesus is torturing you in hell. Its better to be uneducated if education just leads you to hell. As christians we are only supposed to believe the bible. All your so called science is a waste of time.”
This was written on this forum, using the internet, computers, and electricity. All that "so called science". lol
"We don't need brains, we have God!"
Also from this forum. I fear for the future of our species....
Edit : Oh, shoot! I missed the "In real life" fine print.
Kjelstad : I agree with Plato.

I'm always amused when people say they can know something through faith. And they support such a ridiculous notion with tangental anectodotes and vague metaphors. But by definition, faith is only necessary in the abscence of knowledge. Why can't they accept that simple truth?

I was debating with a muslim on the subject of wife beating (the Quran sura 4:34) and this was his defense:
"In Western Society, men aren't allowed to hit their wives, leading to divorces and unhappy relations"

I wish I could say I heard something ridiculous or funny.
Every godbot I have met, upon hearing that I'm an atheist, says either threats, insults, or proselytizing nonsense.

fundie JW - God killed the babies in Sodom and Gomorrah because their parents were being wicked.
me - Why are the kids held responsible for things they didn't do? Why couldn't God have commanded the Israelites to care for the children?
fundie JW - Because when the parents do bad, the kids suffer.
me - So, when someone murders someone else, we should not only execute them, but their entire family too.
fundie JW - Um... uh...
