She will be given lots of flowers and chocolates. Any other ideas? It is very difficult because she can afford anything she needs.

Cheyenne and Scary Monster - I would just like to tell you both that you answers stabbed me through like a knife! How DARE you! Do you have any feelings at all? Have you got parents yourselves?? Do you think it is funny to put an answer like that to someone you don't even know without even thinking of the effect it might have on them. For your information, my dear father died 18 months ago, and my mother is frail and i totally deplore your lack of sensitivity. I hope Karma catches up with you. You are both extremely horrible people!

Thanks for answers so far, but i am still looking for an idea. The photo idea is nice but she has lots of family groups when my father was alive. She is too frail to be taken out and about. Any ideas for an actual gift-wrapped gift would be helpful! Thanks.

Others have mentioned a scrapbook of good wishes or you may be able to put together a scrapbook of the family over the years - both would be great or indeed a photograph frame ready for that special picture of her and family members on her special day.
Another idea may be if she is in the local area of her life is to take her on a tour round to where she was born, where she went to school, where she got married, her first home of her own, etc. Then you could round it off with a special party with family and friends. She would treasure the day and it would bring back many memories for her.
Whatever you decide am sure she will appreciate your love and attention and you being there just for her. Enjoy whatever you decide upon and treasure the time you have with your Mum. God Bless you both.

Congrats on living that long...that is rare these days...I would say just spend some quality time with her, maybe take her out to dinner or make a special dinner for her. How about sitting down and watching old home video's with her. It is always nice to relive the past with videos and laughing at how we all looked back in the day. Just have fun with her, and make sure you tell her what a great lady she is and how you love her.

Definately agree with the majority~~ time is more precious than anything you can buy in a store. I like the idea or a family portrait. Everyone together in one place. A nice afternoon out together or in the house, which ever she is able to do. Tell her happy birthday for me ~~~lord I hope to see 91yrs!

Has you mother any pet´s at home , I would suggest a budgie , or a small bird, something to keep her company, many elderly people don´t look for much , and as you said she can afford anything she need´s . but sometime´s money dose´t buy everything & I think a small bird would be nice, & a very Happy Birthday to her when her day comes

I was going to suggest taking her for a really posh tea in a hotel, but as she is too frail, how about taking a really posh tea round to her, with a few family and friends. If you have the funds, hire a waiter to serve it!

Cook her a nice meal, complimented by a nice vintage wine and wish her a Happy Birthday from all at Yahoo.

How about a gift of your time, probably means more to her than anything material you could give her. Take her out somewhere to see some sights or something like that.

Give her the biggest hug and the sloppiest kiss ever and whisper in her ears and tell her how much you appreciate her, how much you love her, how much your kids and your grandkids love her. She's 91, she doesn't need anything fancy etc. Give her a family portrait photo and frame it inside her bedroom where she can see it daily.

If you have a family, why not a really nice Photo of you all to-gether in a lovely silver frame, with her in the centre. My old mum loved her photographs.
