What type of laminate flooring is it that you can just score it with a razor and pop it into two peices as opposed to having to cut the flooring with a saw?

The product I believe that you are referring to is a luxury vinyl tile with a limestone composite base. Mannington has Adura and Congoleum has Durastone. 20 warranty against wear through, fade and stain. They are both strong and durable. They are put down with an adhesive over a completely smooth substrate. They are a thicker product, which is why perhaps, you thought it was a laminate.

Laminate floors are made with a coated melamine sheet 7-8 mm thick fiberboard core and a laminate balancing layer. They can not be "scored and snapped" they must be cut with a saw with a daimond tipped blade with v-notches cut out so the blade doesn't get so hot. The wear layer surface on the laminate is designed to be very scratch resistant so it makes it hard to cut. There is aluminum oxide (second hardest substance to a diamond) in the finnish.

Good luck with your flooring project,

Jen

There is no laminate flooring that can be cut with a razor. You may be thinking of laminate for counter tops or other applications.
All laminate floors are about 3/8" thick and consist of a composite wood backing and an aluminum oxide finish that will destroy a knife blade immediately To make laminate installation easier there are laminate cutters that are small, create no dust, and can be used inside your house. These are expensive though, about $300.

I have used the stuff that needs cutting with a saw and I found this very useful- http://www.ultimatehandyman.co.uk/laminate_flooring/index.htm

This just about explains everything!

Except from laminate that you can cut with a razor :-)
