Timothy was a young man that was greatly interested in taking up work like the Apostle Paul did.
Paul, in fact, employed Timothy to stay in many congregatioins, to set matters right.
While doing this, Paul wrote him a couple of letters.
Paul wrote the first letter to Timothy to set out certain organizational procedures in the congregation.
There was also a need for him to warn Timothy to be on guard against false teachings and to strengthen the brothers to resist such ‘false knowledge.
There are:
Exhortations to a good conscience (1:1-20)
Instructions regarding worship and organization in the congregation (2:1–6:2)
Counsel on “godly devotion along with self-sufficiency” (6:3-21)
