Hi there. Parakeets are small parrots and are very intelligent. Feed your bird a good pellet food, limit seeds to 10% and give fruits and veggies 10-20% Avoid avocado and chocolate which are toxic. All fids (feathered kids) need training, socialization, and activities to do. You can spend the time to train the bird or give it to someone who will. As far as loneliness, if you don't engage with your bird, then its existence is rather pointless and sad. Evaluate your needs and consider giving the bird to someone who could have a relationship with this bird that is mutually beneficial. Have a nice year

Parakeets are like cockatiels in many ways.Birds need love and affection. I got my 3 yr old tiel from a neighbour who was moving, and she is in love with me. A mirror is a good idea, but the best thing of all is gentle handling and freedom from her cage. I've given my tiel the run of the house , even with my dog and cat around, but I am here at all times when she is out
she goes back into her cage for food (when she's not eating mine) and water. If she is nippy, you need to break her of that. She needs to know that it won't work. Grin and bear it if she bites. dont let her think she's hurting you. Let her sit on your shoulder, and never chase her. before you know it she'll be grooming you and sticking her beak in your ear. So give her more freedom and love. Continue to call her "not people friendly"and she'll always be that way. Have faith that she will come around and she will not let you down.

You could try placing a mirror in her cage, or even a plastic bird which you clip onto the perch.Try leaving a radio on low.Try to find toys that interest her,and alternate them on a daily basis to hold her interest.Talk to your bird as much as possible,be around her. Does your bird come out her cage at all? Try a play centre? (make sure ALL curtains and doors/windows are closed. If you experience problems returning her to the cage, place a cloth or towel over her to pick her up.

get her a mirror...and one of those "nature sounds" CDs, play them for her, make sure there are some bird calls on them...pick one like "rainforest" or "austrailian outback". Sometimes just leaving the radio on when no one is around helps them feel they are not alone. These are flocking birds, they do not like being solitary, unless they are tame. This has worked for me in the past, especially with the few birds that just didn't care for people.

If you consider getting another bird.....be prepared for a lot more noise!

but i suggest the mirror and cd.

good luck

circulate to a puppy grant shop and get a putting mirror on your poultry. that's staggering how plenty time a poultry will spend with their 'chum' interior the mirror. it is going to provide her a 'better half' with none danger. i'd attempt that earlier getting yet another poultry given which you haven't any longer have been given fairly some time for the single you have already got. solid good fortune and that i'm hoping the mirror facilitates. My poultry enjoyed it.

I would clip her wing feathers so she can't fly so well. She will have to depend on you to help her move around. You can have get to know you training sessions in the bathroom. (Make sure that bird proof the bathroom so she won't hurt herself.)

I do this when I need to train a bird to accept people. It works for me. Maybe it will work for you.....good luck!

put a mirror in her cage, one that is about the same size she is, that way she has another bird(herself) to play with without being forced to deal with people all the time.

place a mirror in her cage so that she "thinks" she has a play-mate.
