In the modern world, Valentine's Day is a secular holiday devoid of any religious context at all. Most people have dropped the 'Saint' from the day and though St. Valentine was a real person, the Catholic Church essentially created the mythos around him as a replacement for Eros the Greek god of physical love to further entice anyone with Pagan leanings to embrace the Church. The parallels between many of the saints and Greek/Roman gods are disturbing.

It can be linked to the Catholic St. Valentine, but like many other holidays, it has been commercialized. It's secular now. Do we really need a day to tell people how much we love them?
I've made a self-vow to back off the spending on holidays and honor the people I love in other ways. (I'm really trying to do this, although I went a little over budget on Christmas.) This year for Valentine's Day, we aren't buying gifts. I purchased inexpensive cards (not the 3.99 each variety) and I'm making homemade cookies with my kids. We're going to spend time, not money, together.

It is a pagan holiday, christianized, commercialized and now a hallmark moment, like Saint Patricks Day.
Actually all the "christian" special days were initially pagan special days. Christians poached them in order to make conversion of the savages more seamless.
Of course the pagan specials days were initiallly poached from the previous pagans, etc.

The thing we call 'Valentine's Day' today is nothing more than tradition.
The same with Christmas.
Few know the true meaning of Christmas. And it's not "giving".
It's God's gift to mankind!

I dont think its affiliated with any religion. It may have been in the past, but its one of those holidays that has become so commercialized that it now centers around chocolates and hearts, rather than anything religiously related.
