I am not sure exactly why we are there now, sometimes I hear it is to keep America safe from the axis of evil and sometimes we are there to bring good old god given democracy to the poor people of Iraq. anyway lets say you had to decide because we wanted to save ourselves from evil and bring our values to the downtrodden sods in Iraq but it meant sending your child to the front lines to fight, would you do it?
as far as I know there are no senators or congressmen or any white house high ranking staff with their kids fighting in the Iraq war, so I am wondering if it would make a difference.

I also want to add that I respect, love and support our troops all the way, there is none better in all the world, but it kills me to think of any boy or girl dying for a war that may not be nessessary. That to me is real disrespect for our troops.

I do support our troops and whatever is needed to make our troops safe and successful should be given in any way shape or form. To send anyone in harms way and then pull the plug or cut funding is an atrocity. (See Rumsfeld and armor for humvees, supplies to Iraq, Bay of Pigs, Vietnam , battle of Mogadishu ( blackhawk down and Clinton ) and countless other war crimes on support and funding) My concern is the lives of the troops and it is hard for me to accept the sacrifice of any American troop, hence my question.

Every service member in the US military is a volunteer and they have volunteered for the military knowing the full scope of their duty. I'm retired and I have been to Iraq three times...

The main reason I had no problem with serving in Iraq is so my children or grandchildren hopefully will not have to fight overseas...

Regarding Congress and the Administration. As a Service Member I couldn't care less if anybody in Washington had children in the military. The only thing which carried weight for me was if my elected representative supported my efforts 100%. Unlike the current majority which would like nothing better than to gut the military in favor of social programs...

As an ex military member I would say yes. If I believe in the cause I would be willing to risk the sacrifice. Everyone in the military is there by volunteering, and knew war with Iraq was not only possible but probably (prior to start of military action we were already at war with Iraq, but under a cease fire.)
One more thing if you look at the statistics a military person in Baghdad is less likely to be killed than the same person in St. Louis (Due to violent crime)

Supporting our troops and supporting the war go hand in hand. To say you support us and yet you don't support the fight we have in front of us ties our hands in doing what must be done. Trust me when I say that our enemy understand our political process and want our society to be divided in this fight against Muslim Fanatics who twist their faith of Islam into a faith of death and destruction.

As far as answering your question, I am fighting this war not only for my children, but for all of our children so that they don't have to live in fear from terrorists who will fight us regardless of the country we are in...our included. They stop at nothing and are killing innocent women, children and Soldiers alike. I don't want my children to have to do this. I want to rid this world of these religious zealots so that my children don't have to.

I on no account supported the conflict interior the 1st place. i concept the whole "weapons of mass destruction" element became BS. i think of that the republicans help Bush via fact additionally they have faith that we are able to win the conflict. nicely we are able to win yet at what fee. Many lives have been already lost and we are able to easily lost greater lives and waste greater of the tax payers money. Republicans are additionally constructive , they only can not settle for the incontrovertible fact that they've been incorrect approximately Iraq.

You need to do more research.
There are quite a few members of the Senate and House that have children in the military.
Would you really want a leader that based his decisions on whether he had a child in the military?

The war is a waste of time, money and has been a lot of pointless sacrifice on both sides. I wouldn't and don't support it.
