Dont' you mean why must all 3 primary religions grow a beard?
It is forbidden to shave your face in Judaism and strict interpretations of the bible!!!
If you are a christian you may not realize that since christians tend to be the most loosey-goosey with the gospel.
Which is of course social evolution towards freeing ourselves from the shackles of ancient fictional texts. Christians are the most progressive of the three. It's cause of all that wiccan and forest magic associated w/ christianity, well that and Americans/western europeans just wanna be free and liberated.

Actually we do some things as part of respect to Mohammed (PBUH), it is following the Sunna, see God told us that Mohammed (PBUH) is the best role model for each Muslim
the length of the beard should not be very long, actually the Prophet used to cut it at a certain lenght..but I will do more search about it ..
Add:
I just looked it up, the Prophet told the Muslims to do so so they can be recognized as Muslims, he told the men to "let go" of the beard as a sign of differentiating them from those who worship an idol with God...
See, as part of Sunna we must shave pubic hear (both sexes) and "pluck" the hair of our underarms and men should cut their mustache if they had any..
Just part of being a Muslim

Its not actualy ordered in Quran but its Sunnah because our prophet Muhammad(pbuh) had beard so in respect to that many muslims grow a beard !
Hygienic ?? well its just like hair on skull and muslims do wa'du Five times a day for offering prayes in which they wash their face 3x . so its no problem with hygiene because they wash it atleast 15 times a day !!

It is out of respect for the Prophet Mohammed (pbuh) that we grow our beards. Beards do not necessarily interfere with eating if properly groomed.

I know plenty of Muslim men without the long beards, maybe you were referring to a particular sect within Islam. Or maybe not everyone follows it, hello do Christians follow all the thousands of rules in the Bible?
