I suppose there would be different possible meanings to the expression.
1. As Christians, they go against popular cultural ideas and tendencies (materialism, etc.)
2. They are Christians of the "post-modern" period, and their way of life, and worship, goes contrary to typical Christian culture.
3. They could be Christians with a hippy tendency (there, now you can guess my age! LOL)

One that doesn't conform to the ways of the world, but rather allows the transforming of their heart through the power of God.
A 'cultural' Christian is just like everyone else. Someone you wouldn't be able to tell the difference between them and the rest of the world.
"You will know them by their fruits" -Jesus
Most people don't walk by an orange tree and say, "I wonder what kind of tree that is?"

Someone who goes their own way.
Someone who won't be bowed by self appointed and self righteous religious "leaders"
Someone who is less concerned for mores of society than for those who have been ostracised because they do not conform to those mores.
Jesus would be a good example.

I would assume that they are post-modern or that they are part of the emergent church.
