Of course, bras are a must have, without them you look nasty. And if you are a girl who wants to show a little something something then don't wear one, but for protection and comfort, then it is completly appropiate.

When I was yonger (in high school), my mom used to do a bra check on me to make sure I remembered to put one on. I hated bras when I was younger! I was a 34B in high school, so I didn't have a lot to offer. When I got older (after my child), I went up a cup size. My breasts are not saggy... in fact, they're amazing.... anyway, I could easily get away without wearing a bra now. I like wearing one though because a little more padding goes a long way in creating a sexier silhouette. I know that young guys think that girls with boyish figures are hot, but men love a woman with curves.... decent boobs, small waist, full hips.
I don't think that bras are absolutely necesarry, but they are appropriate. Although pubescent boys may love the fact that your high beams are on, not everyone wants to see that. In fact, it looks tacky. And all women are supposed to be classy: goth, prep, mod, whoever you are.

Bras, like a lot of other personal stuff, is a matter of personal choice.
They are neither appropriate nor inappropriate.

iam a man,but i heard that they should be worn to keep them from sagging.i think they help out the muscles.

bras arent about being appropriate, theyre a necesity. without a bra, i dno wut i'd do, i even sleep with one! they not only offer protection, but they prevent that saggy boob thing women get. :P
