i love the idea of having a cupcake tower, or little stacked cakes for a wedding cake (actually, that's what the original wedding cakes were little cakes held together with icing.) my question is, would it be ok to have a smaller "normal" wedding cake to cut, and then the stacked one to serve? my fiance's aunt makes cakes and will most likely be making ours (he's in charge of that aspect) and i'm pretty sure she's making the usual, round tiered cake. i'm just wondering how it would work. i mean, you can't cut a stacked cake real well......can you? how

That sounds great. The small cutting cake will also give you the topper to save for the first anniversary if you want to do that tradition.
The cupcake tower is great because you can have many different flavor combinations for the cake and frosting and filling. Just be sure to have a sturdy base for them. If it is not stable, the cupcake tower could come tumbling down.

That's fine. Come to think of it when you go to weddings you see the couple cutting a beautiful cake that looks like it can only feed 40- 50 people, but yet it feeds 100. That's 'cuz there's another sheet cake in the kitchen. Notice after the bride and groom cut the cake, you never see the dining staff cutting the cake and giving out slices. They do cut the cake, but they save the top for the bride and groom and then they cut up a sheet cake along with the original cake so that the guests will have enough.

I own a country club and handle all of the wedding planning. It has been very popular for brides to have cupcakes in addition a small regular tiered cake just for the purposes of cutting.

I'm not sure what you mean by a "stacked cake." If you are planning on stacking all of the cupcakes on top of each other, I'm not sure what the end result would be, but I definitely wouldn't try to cut them during a cake cutting ceremony.

That would be fine. My sister did the same for her wedding. That way they had photos of them cutting the cake, without people wasting and playing over it. The little cup cakes were great for everyone. You cut the stacked layer just to the next layer of the cake. It will cut just fine. Best wishes.

I was at a wedding that was exactly that way, everyone loved the cupcakes because it's so different. Just have a smaller traditional cake to cut and the tree, it'll work out great.

We also thought of a cupcake tower, and having cake boxes on hand to pack the cakes away as favours for the guests, and having a tier of a cake to feed them at the reception. That would work very well, we just could not agree on who was going to pack them into the boxes, so we changed our minds on that one!!

I saw a small three tiered cake for cutting and a cupcake tower with it for serving as well. I don't remember how they cut it though, sorry

My son and his bride had a tower for their wedding cake and just each took one of the cupcakes from the bottom to feed to each other.
