It depends on the suspected viral infection. Antibacterial meds only work on bacteria. Antivirals do work on viruses.

Antibiotics are only effective against bacterial infections.
There are antivirals available for certain viruses such as TAMIFLU (oseltamivir phosphate) for flu prevention and flu treatment in adults, but most viruses will just run their course if you're healthy. Doctors using reserve the antivirals for small children, old people or others with weakened immune systems so that the viruses do not develop immunities to the drugs.

If you are asking about antibiotics, they have no effect on viruses. There are a few drugs that target viruses but not many... Valtrex for Herpes is one But it still will not kill the virus. A virus is not a "living" entity but bacteria is a living organism & most can be at least trEATED WITH SOME SORT OF DRUG.
