The beginning of March is still very cold! Bring a lot of layered clothing.

Before I moved from NYC, there was a big blizzard in April!

Good luck and have a ton of fun!

That is a tough call. There have been as many mild days in March as severe cold ones. You really need to check weather reports just before you go if it is for a week or so (even with their unreliability). If you are staying for longer then you should definitely pack for both freezing and mild weather as weather reports are even more unreliable when forecasting longer periods.

A few bits of info on NYC weather:
Average High: 50°F (10°C)
Average Low: 35°F (2°C)
March tends to be rainy, but for the most part, temperatures stay above freezing. Bring an umbrella regardless of what you find out in reports.

It will probably still be really cold, so pack sweaters and a winter coat. Perhaps bring a few t-shirts, too. You can always take layers off. Weather can be unpredictable at that time of the year. There can be a blizzard or weather in the 60's. Bring a raincoat, too, just in case.

it will be cold, you definitely should bring some gloves and a hat just in case its freezing cold. good walking shoes is a must and boots just in case its snowy because it can be a terrible mess on your clothes if its snowing in nyc. if temp are expected to be warmer wind will always be a factor and can be quite chilly even though it says the temp maybe is 50+ degrees. sweater and jacket or overcoat is perfect.
