Nut's come from every where you can imagine. Inside the fruits (Almonds) out side the fruit (Cashew nuts), top of the tree (Coconuts), under the tree (Peanuts). Peanuts are grown like any other plant, by sowing the seed. Plants grow for about 21/2 to 3 months and you get kernels under the ground near roots, which are harvested, dried and opened to get peanuts.

Nuts grow on nut trees.
Peanuts however are not true nuts, and grow under the ground.
Actually peanuts are Arachis a Brazilian member of the pea family.

Peanuts are not nuts - they're beans.
If you ever think it's stupid that a pack of peanuts comes with a "WARNING - MAY CONTAIN NUTS" marking, it's because they're NOT nuts, but may have been transported in the same sacks that nuts have been when being harvested. Also known as ground-nuts and monkey-nuts, but they're beans.

I found this:
"A Short Peanut History
The peanut plant probably originated in Brazil or Peru, although no fossil records exist to prove this. But for as long as people have been making pottery in South America (3,500 years or so) they have been making jars shaped like peanuts and decorated with peanuts. Graves of ancient Incas found along the dry western coast of South America often contain jars filled with peanuts and left with the dead to provide food in the afterlife."

My origin is from Africa where i have had a Chance of planting them.WOW!
They are grown the same way as potatoes and still harvested the same way. The only difference is they have a pod which can contain up to three peanuts. Just like a bean pod.

peanuts are not really nuts, they are legumes. they grow underground, they start off like teeny tuberous nodules on the roots of the plant, which above the soil, looks rather like a clump of leaves
