Okay, I just bought this seemingly great Panasonic Lumix camera (the DMC-LZ4) from Costco and I thought I would look it up online to see what kind of reviews it had while I still had the time to take it back.

Well low and behold, I can't find more than a single note on this product. Not even a review. Not even a notation on Pansonic's website in their product line. It seems to fall smack dab into the middle of the LZ3 and LZ5.

Can anyone shed any light on this? Have I got a lemon here or what? I am simply desperate to find a review of this model.

Thanks, Ross

So far I have been very happy with my DMC-LZ4 but I am still not certain it is the best purchase. At any rate I and my fiance have decided to keep it. The photos are great, it is user friendly, and it has the all-important optical stabilization.

The downsides are the lack of a microphone and the lack of a Leica lens (it is a Panasonic lens). Since I am about to buy an HD camcorder I see no reason to worry about the mic and the lens. Well it is obviously not all that bad since the photos are so beautiful.

You're not the first to ask around about the LZ4 (It really is a bit of a mystery):

"I finally got an answer back from Panasonic Canada's sales division. They said that the LZ-4 has the same features as an LZ-5, but with no microphone. They didn't explain why there was no info on their website and why I had to scour retailers websites for incomplete details."

So, since it's the LZ5 minus the mike, here's an in-depth review for that model:

It's an older model. I don't think you can find it too many places in the states. Some companies will manufacturer cameras for certain retailers or other countries. It could have been a promotional camera as well (we got in a bunch of cheap HP 420's over x-mas. We normally only carried the 425 which was around $129. The 420 went for $99.)

Hey Ross,

sorry I can't shed much light on a review...I was looking for one myself, because my LZ3 comes with a video function but DOESN'T HAVE A MICROPHONE !! AAAArgh. So, I was looking to exchange it for an upgrade, perhaps the LZ4 (or 5?) It does have a mic, doesn't it?

Other than this, I like my Lumix very much - you?

I found a description of your camera, albeit in German, here:

It's just technical data, though, so if you bought yours from Costco you probably have the original documentation.
