What's the problem, if you want long hair then have it long. Why do people need validation on how to wear their hair because of how old they are?

And it's a myth that long hair makes you look older, it actually makes you look younger if it is healthy, vibrant and in good condition.

HTH : )

I turned 40 at the end of last year and was convinced by my hairdresser to cut off my waist length hair to just below my shoulder. Everyone commented on how great it looked but now I have to do my hair all the time, I can never just leave it straight after washing it. I guess I am glad I tried it and it has been a change, now I will grow it again and have long hair for a while, then probably cut it at 45. I agree with the person that said if it suits you and if it is kept coloured. The whole long hair and grey is not very flattering to anyone. Most importantly though, make sure you like the way you look, then the smile on your face will outshine the hair on your head anyway.

I am in my 30's and intend to keep my almost waist-length hair for a long while yet. I love the way it frames my face and eyes, and I love the options I have for putting it up, braiding it, etc. I am a professional, and have never had a problem with finding a sophisticated look to go with my hair. A nine-plaited braided chignon is perfect for a high-level interview! A reverse draped French braid is one of the classiest styles I have ever seen. A rolled bun tucks up nicely for a backpacking trip. If I'm running late, and leave with my hair wet, it takes care of itself while it dries. And so on...

As an aside, I have seen may women who look absolutely stunning with silver or gray long hair. One woman I knew had a white ponytail down the middle of her back that was gorgeous.

I think it is a cliche that long hair is not sophisticated. The truth is that hair of any length can be awesome. Choose the style that flatters you most, both inside and out. For me, long hair matches my woman scientist persona quite well, and frames my cheekbones just the way I like. Long hair will never be out of style!

There's nothing wrong with it. There are tons of woman who have long hair in there 30's and 40's and look awesome. As far as length goes it really just matters if you like it and you think it looks good. You definitely want to flatter your looks so if long hair looks best on you go for it!

Beautiful. When I was around, everyone thought my hair was 26 younger than my early 40 age.

Depending on how long..If you mean long as by the shoulders, that's fine, if you mean long as by half your back, well that's not so fine, that's ok for teenage girls, maybe women in their 20s, but for a mature woman I prefer hair not that long, just over your shoulders.
But dont listen to me, that's just an opinion, I dont even know you or know how do you look like, if you like very long hair and you think it would look good on you, go ahead, be free!!!

Good luck

I personally think that early 40s is about as old as you should be as a woman and still have long hair. After that you look like a clown.

For men or women lol, I'll assume women...it can still work depending on how you look like if you have lots of wrinkles or grey hair and look older maybe not. Theres a certain age for everyone where you just cant pull of the long hair anymore (I mean imagine a 70 yr old woman in long hair- looks like witchy...) but it varies - if you're 35 but look 27 then sure.

I know this lady (in her 50's) who used to have long red healthy hair. She wasnt very pretty in the face but her hair was so gorgeous no one cared! Her husband loved her hair and told her every day how gorgeous it was. He is literally the sweetest man she could have asked for. She said one day to him, I'm going to get my hair cut short and spiky! And he begged her not to, but she ignored him and got it cut in this SHORT spiky cut. It looks HIDEOUS! When asked why she did it even when her husband begged her not to, she said "He cant keep me from looking young!!" and was real mean about it. Her hair looks absolutely terrible now, and she looks actually 10 years older now! But, long hair suits some people, and some it doesnt. I've seen women as old as 60 with long hair and i think its GORGEOUS!! But some that have their hair real ratty with split ends need to cut it. Long hair only looks good if its healthy.
