I just got my fifth tattoo done three days ago, and instead of getting this piece done in separate visits, I got it all done in one visit. Its the size of my hand and is all filled in. I have used bacitracin on all my tattoos and never had any problems. But with this one it has been pretty sore and it is still oozing, particularly in the center. There are spots that raise up after I clean it as well. I've done a bunch of research and so far I haven't really gotten an answer I want. Is this normal with larger pieces? Anyone reccomend anything to help with the pain and the spots that are swelling?

Well, I found out the problem....I'm hypoglycemic and I have recently not been eating like I should have been. My tattooist was telling me about his problems with his tattoos from being diabetic. That's crazy! I guess I will be going to the doctors to see if I really have hypoglycemia. Thanks everyone for your help!

Its you. the tattoo is fine, its certainly not infected from your description.

Throw the bacitracin in the trash right away. its meant for cuts not for tattoos. stop putting anything on it and let it dry out for a day or two, then just put a little light cocoa butter cream on it. THATS ALL. Prep H cream also works really good for colour pieces. It sounds like you've over done it and pissed the tattoo off absically. bacitracin also pulls the colour out of fresh tattoos so they look faded before their time. Not the best choice of aftercare.

well first off... congrats on the new ink! well i've had 3 done so far and one is about the same size as what you described. I personally was told by my tattoo artist to never use bacitracin b/c it's so harsh. I put neosporin on mine (which despite what you may have heard, does not fade it in any way) and i just kept them moist (never let em get dry or it causes cracking and hurts more). Mine was a little raised up and swore, like a sunburn... which is what i treated it like more or less. take advil or some sort of anti-inflammatory to help with the swelling and pain. hope that helps and good luck!

As for swealing on large pieces.....yes this is normal...and you can put ice packs(the best is frozen peas and yes weird but true) on it to reduce the swealing...it also depends on the area you got tattooed...i got one on my hip bone and it even brusied...with it being a larger piece there is more trama to one area of skin and this is why it is sooo sore...and the part of oozing may be do to your artist going a lil deep on you...it should heal fine but if things do not seem to get better after two weeks there may be a problem...and as for a cream..anything the is a vitamin for the skin...you dont have an infection there for you dont need neosporin.

Wow tyger.....I can't say if that's normal or not. I got a tattoo in Dec that is larger than the one you are talking about, I had it done in one sitting and it gave me no trouble at all.....if you go to my 360 page and look in my blog. Click on my dragon tattoo.....and when it loads...click it again....My tattoo in that pic is 12 hours old....and I had just washed it for the first time....it never scabbed up....it never bled... If you're that worried about it go back to your artist and let him have a look.

Sorry I wasn't any help and good luck with your tattoo

it depends on where you got the tattoo done. all of my tattoos are bigger than the palm of my hand and the two on my feet have gotten raised spots with thicker scabbing on them because of poor circulation i guess but they all healed fine. my tattoos are usually sore for about five to six days until they start itching.

This might be dumb, but since this is your first problem with the tattoo, it's probably not in the norm.

I bet the tattoo parlor gave you a card to call in case you have questions or something. Why not just call them?

This really doesn't sound normal especially if it hasn't happened with any of your other tattoos, I've never seen an infected tattoo so I can't really help except to say get your *** to the doctor. By any chance did you go somewhere new and were you certain the equipment was clean and the needles were new?
