To put it simply Linux allways came up with new solutions... What did windows come up with, besides implementing the same features available for some time on mac's?
Linux is better if you really want freedom... Freedom in learning how programs work, in creating or updating software and so on.. This is Linux.. Freedom of Speech.
Widnows is quite the opposite.. The user only has to click to get something done, and that's all he or she needs to know.

Linux is far more robust than Windows is.
Linux with a KDE interface is in my opinion is much better than Windows any day.
Linspire is a pre-configured Linux distribution that functions just like Mac OSX or Windows.
If you try Linspire you may never go back to Windows ever again.
(I never did)
And there is by far more productive software available for Linux than there is for Windows.
You can even run Windows programs on Linux with Crossover.
Just try Linspire and you will see.
With Linux you can go anywhere on the internet and leave your computer connected and you will never get a virus or spyware because Linux cannot be infected by viruses as long as you are not logged in as root.
And you don't have to activate it either.
Everything that you do on Windows can also be done on Linux.
Music, Games, Internet, Movies, Office, etc.
The only people that say that you can't do those things are people that are completely uninformed.
From there you may want to look at a Mac.

Windows is better. There is hardly nothing that runs on Linux.
So it stinks. I wish there were more programs for it but there isn't.
It's like when people say the mac is better than the pc this is not really true in a way. It's like, a mac is like a ferrari but you can only drive it in 1 city. When the pc is not as good as a ferrari lets say its a corvette but you can drive it anywhere.
So when folks say linux is better or macs are better I would ask them Better in what way? They usually say they don't crash as often and this is good if you are just sending out email.
But..if you want to run programs, games, play videos, watch tv on the computer and more...
The PC and Windows reigns supreme.

Rebuttal to WorkFortoday's response:
Windows is better. There is hardly nothing that runs on Linux.
So it stinks. I wish there were more programs for it but there isn't.
-->Name a Windows application, except games, and I can name about 10 different Linux based applications to do the same function. Game functionality is bad on Linux, I give you that, but game companies sell to the marker share leader, which no one here can argue is Windows.
It's like when people say the mac is better than the pc this is not really true in a way. It's like, a mac is like a ferrari but you can only drive it in 1 city. When the pc is not as good as a ferrari lets say its a corvette but you can drive it anywhere.
--> This is besides the point. We are talking about Linux vs Windows.
So when folks say linux is better or macs are better I would ask them Better in what way? They usually say they don't crash as often and this is good if you are just sending out email.
--> Unfortunately, the question didn't include "for desktop publishing" or "for servers" or "for counting peanuts..." However, everyone here knows that a person asking such a question means home desktop use, not servers and not work machines (ie: word processing, spreadsheets).
But..if you want to run programs, games, play videos, watch tv on the computer and more...
--> Like I said, name me one Windows app and I can name about 10 different Linux applications that do the same thing. If you're a gamer, you're not going to be running Linux unless you like Tux racer or Solitaire. If you're a serious gamer, you're probably not asking such questions either. Serious gamers know a lot of information about what their PCs can do because they either built them or checked out the specs on everything before they bought it. It's their nature.
Here's a link for running TV on Linux, with 5 programs to do it:

Here's a link for running video, security cameras, web cameras, playing radio, etc on Linux:

The PC and Windows reigns supreme.
--> I think your knowledge of Linux is either outdated or obscured by some other visions of Microsoft. The reason people don't use Linux is not because there aren't applications and support out there. It's because they don't want to do any work to get to the pot of "gold" at the end of the rainbow. They don't want to have to recompile the kernel to make something work or download and install a program... They instead prefer to reboot their PC whenever they update it - if they update it, and choose to live with how things are with Microsoft's product. They don't necessarily care about security, viruses, or stability. They know that 9 times out of 10 that when they reboot, the problem will go away. I'm fine with Windows folks being that way. It's their choice. It's also the choice of Linux users to sometimes be burdened by trying out a couple of different applications or codecs to make something work the way they want it to. They have the choice, if they wish, to go out to the open source code of many Linux projects, and make it better if they don't like it. Try that with Windows. You might get sued.

Get a copy of UBUNTU. You can try it out without installing it as it comes on a live CD. It and all of the software that you will ever need is free too.
I am running UBUNTU on all of my computers and have not had to pay one cent for any program that I needed. Just because it is free does not mean it is not as good or better than something you pay for.
