My daughter has been in the process of potty training. Before this weekend, it has been pretty much hit and miss. You know, sometimes she goes on the potty, sometimes not. Well, on Friday, I bought these new Pampers Easy-Ups with Dora on them. So, this weekend, I told her that Dora doesn't like to be wet so try your best to keep her dry and happy. I don't know if that helped, but she certainly did much better than she has previously. She only had 3 accidents on Saturday and 2 on Sunday. But, today isn't going so well. I had to go back to work, so she's at Grandma's. She is there 4 days a week from 8:00 to 5:00, so it's not a strange place and she is comfortable there. I went to see her at lunch and she had only gone on the potty once so far. I tried to get her to go while I was there, but she wouldn't (of course I didn't force her). She was doing so well over the weekend. Why did she have a setback today?

This morning, I came up with a potty chart with stickers. She went on the potty before we left and I put a sticker on there. So, we brought the chart to Grandma's thinking this would help her progress. But, was the chart too much? Could this be the reason for a setback? Having to please Dora and having to worry about stickers at the same time. Could that be it?

It's like so many things we learn, three steps forward, two back. All the kids are different. Some learn quickly, some go back and forth before they finally break free. When you changed her environment she may have not had the usual clues to do her thing, so she lost her place. But she'll adjust. It'a all a process of learning and adjustment. Just be patient. Wait till she's old enough to go out with the boys - talk about three steps forward and two backward.

All kids have setbacks and potty training is hard away from home. The stickers and new undies are a great idea to keep her enthusiasm up but she may feel a touch more pressure now. Just keep teaching her lovingly and be paient and make sure Grandma is helping her remember and it will come. Take heart, she won't wear Pull-ups to college.

My daughter had a few weeks of back-and-forth of good days and bad days when first learning to use the potty. What I learned was that my wife, the baby sitter and I were all fairly inconsistent on how we managed the potty. So, I created a schedule for her to sit on the potty. When we all got on the same schedule ... we eliminated 99% of the issues (for peeing ... going # 2 was a bit of a struggle)

Well at grandma's house is she still going on with what you are doing with the potty training? Because if there isn't any help then she will just go in her pull up. IT has to be consistant.

It appears that grandma is not reinforcing the same rules as you do. Both of you and grandma have to do the same thing or your daughter will be confused.

I really think you are over-thinking this. It could just be a random factor affecting her today. Just stay positive without pressuring her, and it will come.
