You already know Gilliland is not a rookie but if you have to pick one of the 2 out of a group I will try to help. Gilliland is going to be the trendy pick because of the pole plus he did run good at the shootout. Keep in mind, though, that they only race 4 times at superspeedways. His best finish of all last year (at least I think) was at Talladega, where he got 15th. His average finish on the intermediate tracks was 27.3 (10 races in 2006), 32 at road courses (1 race) and 34.7 at short tracks (3 races). You see we are starting off the season at his best type of track. Don't forget that Montoya looked good qualifying. Montoya has a ton of racing experience although not in NASCAR. Gilliland came out of nowhere last year winning a Busch race in an unsponsored car. If you look at Mears vs. Sadler (the 42 car vs. the 38 car) last year I believe the advantage goes to the 42 (Montoya's car this year). I'm not saying anything bad about Gilliland but Juan Montoya is going to be one hell of a cup racer eventually and I think he will do better this year, including rookie of the year. I'm not a Dodge fan but I think Ganassi is a better team right now than Yates.

Well out of those two I would have to Montoya because Gilliland isn't a rookie anymore. Drove in more than 7 races last year so he doesn't qualify for the rookie of the year. So Montoya would be the one.

Gilliland would be choice 1 for the fact he has driven with most of these drivers already.
Montoya for the bbuilt up hype and the fact he has had some good runs in ARCA and Busch.
Menard would be considered for consistancy.

Gilliland will turn out to be another flash in the pan, here today gone tomorrow.Montoya,on the other hand is the real deal.I think he'll fit in great, and as his confidence grows he'll be fun to watch. He'll put the junk that Ganassi owns to shame ,forcing Chip to catch up with NASCAR's elite.

deffinately montoya.
the reason is he is a proven driver.
indy 500 win,7 wins in F1,CART champion,in his limited nascar starts he has done pretty well.he also finished 4th, i believe, in the ARCA race at talledega last fall.
gilliland has 15 starts and an average finish of 28.3,dont sound to promising.sure the guy has the pole, but he got that with only one car on the track, not 43
fyi........gilliland is not a rookie though

1st of all, do NOT go with: - Bobby Labonte - Robby Gordon - David Gilliland - Reagan Smith - Max Papis - Dave Blaney - Mike Bliss - Terry Cook From that, its narrowed down to: - Sam Hornish jr. - Paul Menard - Brad Keselowski - Michael Waltrip - Scott Speed - Bill Elliot - Travis Kvapil - Kevin Conway I would choose these drivers: Group 6 Sam Hornish - Full sponsorship, pretty consistent Group 7 Scott Speed - only one in the group with full sponsorship Group 8 Bill Elliot - Lots of experience There you go, thats my rundown on what to do here in this situation.

Gilliand. Montoya's inexperience with full body cars (non open wheel) will catch up to him later. Gilliand will be this year's Hamlin

Regardless of Gilliland's non-eligibility,he won't hold a candle to J.P.Even in the garbage that ganassi guy's have to drive, this guy is gonna shine.I can only imagine what he'd do in a Gibb's car.
