He already was. He asked them to teach them a lesson.
When you get in trouble, would it be enough if you just think someone knows you did wrong and you never get punished? What would you learn from that=nothing!
You have to confess your wrongdoings even to your parents.

He obviously already knew, he just wanted to give Adam & Eve a fair chance to confess. Didn't your parents do the same when you did something wrong and they already knew what you did?
Why are you asking such a simple question that you could have figured out for yourself so easily?

God does know all things. He knew that Adam and Eve would sin before they did it...He still gave them the choice...He asked Where are you, but He knew where they were, He wanted them to speak up and confess of their sins...Just like He wants all of us to do..

If I went as much as heaven, you would be there; if I lay down interior the international of the lifeless, you would be there. If I flew away previous the east or lived interior the farthest place interior the west, you would be there to steer me, you would be there to help me. i could ask the darkness to hide me or the sunshine around me to coach into nighttime, yet even darkness isn't darkish for you, and the nighttime is as bright via fact the day. Again, you have to go on the premise there is a God. Your premise is there is no God.
God is about relationship. Like a Father to a child. gently teaching us. What parent does not want the child to choose for themselves to right instead of wrong?

God is everywhere and all-knowing God.(Heb 4:13)"Nothing in all creation is hidden from God's sight.Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account".
Even before Adam and Eve sinned God knew what will happen. When He created man,God gave them the freewill of choice. In Gen 3:9 God called to the man,"Where are you?"God wanted Adam to tell the truth and confess of their wrong doing(disobedience). It's thesame situation when we commit sin,we feel sorry and knell down to God to confess our sins (1John 1:9)
But instead of confessing what they (Adam and Eve) have done,Adam blamed Eve and Eve blamed the serpent. They reasoned out.it's thesame thing for us today.when we made mistakes we reason out "i'm only human.I'm not the only one whose doing it".As a christian when we sin we have to seek the face of the Lord in prayer.we humble ourselves and ask God for forgiveness.God is in our midst and He's waiting for us to talk to Him...

Why does a father or mother ask his or her child a question when he or she already knows the answer? It's to give the child the chance to be honest or to lie. The childs choice then influences the lesson or lessons needing taught.

Well, since God wrote the Bible, maybe He figured He'd just make that part up to build the dramatic tension.
I mean, it would have been hilarious if He had written, "And God said to Man, knowing exactly where he was, because... well, duh. Omnipotent, remember?" But probably not the sort of thing religious folk would take seriously.
Oh stop making that face everybody - you know I'm right.

Probably for the same reason parents ask "Did you take a cookie" when their child's mouth is covered with chocolate... to give the child an opportunity to make a choice.

I think He asked to see if Adam and Eve would tell the truth and whether they were willing to face up to their mistakes.
