The USMC only drops 15% of recruits.(Thats opposed to about 40% of other branches) And included in that 15% of dropouts are recruits be dropped for medical, drug related, lying on application. If that gives you an idea. He wont get dropped, most recruits get pneumonia and other illnesses while at boot. He'll get through it and become one of the baddest mother f*****s on the planet. OOHRAH.

I know this is going to sound sarcastic, and this isn't how I mean it: I think that you have as much chance of finding comfort from going into the military, as you would in joining a cult. No joke. If you think that the only way to get out of the anxiety, isolation, and depression that you are feeling, is to join something that doesn't give you the option of wallowing, then those two options are about the same. My feeling? Neither are going to be good for you. A better suggestion, is to find an organization that helps people worse off than you (homeless, poor, sick) and volunteer there. You will work with people, you will get some pride in yourself because you will see that you can accomplish good, and you will keep going, because you will know that those people really do need you. Military boot camp CAUSES anxiety and depression in the "normal" people who go to them.

It takes a lot to get out or be dropped! The have special Platoons for everything, such as if you are too fat the have the Fat platoon where you do nothing but physical exercise all day and eat right to reduce weight, if you have an attitude problem you get to go to the MRP platoon for adjustment, the medical stuff is overlloked unless it's life threatening. When I was in we picked up a recruit that was in recruit traing for 13 months, because of many problems, they finally worked it out of him!

He won't be "mustered out" of the Marines unless he is found unfit to serve. Ingrown toenails and a bout with pneumonia won't do it.

Hell No! Marines are known for having stamina-and not being pu s sies, who give in. So, believe me, they will work his butt off physically and mentally, until it is a proven fact he is not qualified. They don't give up that easily.

As long as his problems are "fixable" medical problems, they will allow him to continue. He will be dropped back a platoon or two but he will be allowed to stay as long as he continues to try.

It's hard to tell these days. We are at war and right now, we need the body count. Sorry if that sounds cold. But it is true.
