What I did was this....I got containers and took them to the nursing home, showing her how many containers would fit in her room. Then we took them to her house and began. You see she already feels like she is losing control. If you try to make her get rid of things that are important to her, she will feel it more and refuse or resent you. Let her pick what goes in the containers, and because she was with you when you took them to her new room, she will know this is all that will fit. Let her pick what to fill them with, then decide what happens to the rest. Often times things can be sized down as well. The huge Sunday paper she has because you wedding announcement was in it...snip that and put it in a scrapbook. Your old baby blanket? Snip a piece and into the book it goes! Hope this helps!

She can only take what will fit into two or three drawers, so clothes is about all she can take. Perhaps a few memento's or pictures for the walls. She might even be able to take her favorite bedspread and pillow. But nothing of ANY value should be taken, it WILL be stolen.

Tell her the nursing home only allows certain things. As the nursing home what they suggest she bring and provide her with a list.

well, does she know she's going to a home? in any event, just tell her that this stuff can't go with her. help her pack up what she needs, and some things she wants, and the rest you can pack up after she leaves the house.
