This is an interesting question, especially since both Adam and Eve felt no shame of being naked before they sinned.
Gen 2:25 “The man and his wife were both naked, and they felt no shame.” NIV
However, as soon as they were not in God’s will, something horrible happened. Gen 3:7 “Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves.” NIV
Why would they even consider making coverings for themselves? Weren’t they the only human beings in the Garden of Eden? Weren’t they surrounded by only animals, birds and fish?
The reason is given in Gen 3:10 when Adam is answering God’s call “He answered, "I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid." NIV
Adam and Eve were afraid because they were naked. Could this be a mistranslation? Ashamed I would understand, but why would they be “afraid”?
The original Hebrew word for “was afraid” is “waa'iyraa’” from the verb “yare'” (yaw-ray') which means “to fear”, “to frighten”
They were afraid because they were naked!
This came as a fulfillment to what God earlier said to them in the book of Genesis, in 2:17 “But you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat of it you will surely die." NIV
The moment they were not in God’s will, they died spiritually and inner peace was replaced with fear.
It is interesting that it is God who makes the first sacrifice after their disobedience, in order to clothe them properly: Gen 3:21 “The LORD God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife and clothed them.” NIV

They knew they screwed up.Covering themselves with leaves was man's first attempt to deal with sin on his own. That's why God showed them that without the shedding of blood there is no redemption from sin by killing two animals, and using their skins for coverings.Later Cain tried the same thing when he offered vegtables instead of a blood sacrifice to God.Even though God had told Adam(and Cain knew this) "Cursed is the ground for your sake"... Cain still tried to have it his way.We all try to have it our way. That's just our Adamic nature.

Being afraid of God fearing God are 2 different things. Fearing God is like respect, recognizing His holiness, his omnipotence, etc.

I know I'll be smote by many Christians for saying it, but something so unpredictable, melevolent, harsh and cruel as God is something to be feared. Well - if you believe anyway. Obviously Adam and Eve did (in the story).

Adam and Eve is just a myth...but the reason they were so scared was to teach a lesson as to how to behave around God....fear.
Kill your GOD
-Amen

because maybe {GOD} could have been a {MARTIAN} from a planet called {MARS} or maybe that subtle snake on that tree of Knowledge of Good&Evil was exactly right all along, their three eyes opened all at one time, so it freaked them out as if they smoked {CRACK} for the fourth time and got a lesson in mental paranoia for the first time.

They knew they had disobeyed Him and He knew it, and that is when they became afraid of Him. They feared Him because of their wrong doing.
It's kind of like with my children. They love me, respect me and fear me to a certain degree, but when they know they have disobeyed me they act totally different.

Because they had nothing to protect their genitals, and they knew that God's henchmen, the angels, carried swords.

before Eve ate of the fruit of The Tree of Life, no.
after, yes.
perhaps they should have been before.....
you think?
it just occured to me....
why does a person who evidently does not believe in God ask a question about people who, in his mind, never even existed? do not questions like this then belong in the mythology or fairy tale section?
